85 Silver Chests - Worth It?

This season I discovered the Bots

I feel like having lived under a rock for not knowing that everybody apparently has been using Xbot etc. to "play" Splinterlands. This season I decided to try it out as well, and while I am not a fan of bots (why are we bothering playing a game?), it's apparent that one has to use them now in order to compete. Essentially the motto right now : if you can't beat them, join them. AI bots are so much better than human players that it's not a fair fight. It sucks to lose 10 games in a row and it sucks even more missing out on the rewards that the botters are getting while trying to play fair and square..

My cards are optimized for gold and I was essentially in Bronze because I didn't really play anymore in the last weeks and months. So I bought an XBOT token and let the bot play for me and... in a matter of days I was back in Gold. While it was fun to watch this, I didn't play anymore. But then I realized that I could still play manually in Modern and bot in Wild. That seems like a pretty good compromise and for now I am happy to advance my journey like this in SPL. Overall, it would be better of course if no one would be botting, but since there will always be some with access to bots, it would also always make the playing field uneven.

So what's the solution?

Well it seems there isn't an elegant one. While the company could enforce KYC, it wouldn't prevent individuals from botting. It would just prevent bot farms. And it would cause a lot of player flight which would be a net negative imo. Probably we just have to get rid of battle helpers and botting officially, by preventing the use by the Terms of Services. That does seem to be pretty effective. Sure, some would still use them, but the vast majority would not (at least that'S the idea/hope). Overall this would even the playing field, while individual actors could profit. Is that a good solution? No! But it's probably the most likely one to happen.

I don't have much hope in complicating the game by introducing even more rules and conditions. The game is already confusing enough and with AI, bots will always be able to outcompete humans. I hope LAND won't introduce too many more factors for gameplay, but I am happy to get proven wrong.

As you cab see, I did get some good rewards. But I won't lie; the best part in getting them was by not having to spend hours of my real life to get them. My time is simply too precious to spend it on so little rewards. And to be honest, the game isn't that fun to play (I like it overall, but the pressure to keep playing sucks the fun right out of it). But who knows, a lot of stuff is coming out soon and just maybe it will improve the gameplay experience.
