😨 Will Chaos Legion be the sword of Damocles for Splinterlands 😨 Game Economy & Reward Update

What is really achieved with the new change in the Game Economy and Reward Update released 2 hours ago, even if this is readily denied:

  1. players who don't have enough money to buy cards/powers anyway will get even less rewards than the already low DEC earnings in Bronze and the 1 Loot Chest every day.
  2. players are now even more reliant on renting at the end of the Season, as their Season Rewards are worth less than Season Rewards in Silver3+. However, the recent changes have made the renting market unusable. The defs continue to steadfastly refuse to reverse the changes or introduce penalties for early termination of rentals.
  3. the bots can already play in Silver without any problems. There are even some bots in Gold. Absolutely nothing will change about the problem. The players with a lot of bots have earned enough anyway that they can easily buy their bots in Silver and they will do that more now.

Overall: Further drastically increasing preference for old players who rent their cards to new players. The problem with the bots is apparently fixed, but not really. In fact, poorer players or players with multiple accounts are punished (not newer players, right, although logically the older players are already richer and have significantly more game assets, which can acquire cheaply. So all in all a punish of the majority of new players). However, the only bot players that don't hurt the economy at all that get punished by the change are those with very few accounts.

I was, when I joined at the end of July, ready to invest regularly in Splinterlands. Since the change in Season rewards, I have refrained from doing so. I have also not actively tried from renting since then. The prices are too horrendous and one is annoyed, shortly before the end of the season again only that half of the rentings was canceled. This is a very unsatisfying gaming experience. I think the game is clearly going in the wrong direction. That's why I'm wrestling with myself intensely whether it makes more sense to sell my game assets, which are now worth $350, or to get into Chaos Legion after all.
If such bad changes continue to be made, it will mean the death of the new playerbase and thus the death of the entire market. Because the overproduction of cards, has only taken place due to a growing playerbase. If this base disappears, the market is flooded with a tidal wave of cards. All prices will crash and even long-term players will question the sense of the whole thing. Chaos Legion can then be the sword of Damocles for Spilnterlands. A stagnant market would not be able to withstand this flood of cards. I currently read so often on reddit etc. from new players who are disappointed beyond measure. Understandably, because soon you can not earn more than in CS:GO as a beginner. Very questionable the whole change.

These are just my thoughts on the whole subject. I consider myself quite capable of understanding both sides with my account values totaling $350. I want my cards to be worth more, but I do see the problem that richer players are getting richer with the latest changes and poor players are being deprived of the opportunity to earn anything for their time and efforts. The more this happens, the more unstable the pyramid becomes.

Maybe it turns out to be the only way to stop the bots even if it's illogical. I really hope so.

I get what you say but I think it is exaggerated. Back in the old days when I started playing Magic the Gathering there was already a huge player base. And old players had a significant advantage because they knew all cards. But when you are new and excited and your inquisitiveness is just too big to stop digging you will eventually figure it out.

I agree that you can't earn much by just playing the game.

But people need to zoom out a little bit to see the bigger picture. When you are smart you don't just play you also stake and maximize airdrops. May be even leverage the marketplace.

My guess is that CL sets a new standard in SL and it can bring in even more players. Because people like me want the cards. We want the best cards and we are here to play. Making money is nice but the incentives can't be huge. It would kill the game. As it did with so many other P2E games.
