Earn More SPT Through Staking & Delegation w/ monster-curator

So you wrote a few articles on SplinterTalk and now there's a nice little pile of SPT sitting there in your wallet. Did you know you can stake these rewards and then delegate them to earn even more through curation? I'm about to show you how!

Staking With Monster-Curator

The @monster-curator Project was started in 2019 and has been working tirelessly to promote quality content and help grow the community ever since. Staking your SPT with them allows you to earn even more of it and on top of that, SPT tokens count for 0.25 airdrop points in-game, earning you SPS (which can also be staked for even higher returns!) as well.

The Staking Process

Screen Shot 2021-09-01 at 12.32.04 PM.png
Ignore the $0 balance. I'd already delegated everything when I took this.

After you've written your article and received some votes, your rewards will be deposited into your (SplinterTalk Wallet) the following week. Once the SPT is in that wallet, you can go to over to your Hive-Exchange Wallet and you'll see that the SPT also appears there.

Screen Shot 2021-09-01 at 12.23.45 AM.png

You'll notice a little padlock at the end of the SPT row. If you click that, it will bring up the staking window.

Screen Shot 2021-09-01 at 12.20.42 AM.png

Verify that YOUR username is the one listed in the "TO:" field and after you enter the amount you'd like to stake, hit "STAKE SPT" to complete the staking process. After completing this process, if you look at the SPT in your wallet, you'll notice that the padlock icon has changed and there's a new icon next to it.

Screen Shot 2021-09-01 at 12.24.45 AM.png

The Delegation Process

If you click the two-way arrow, it will open up a window that looks like the staking window we just used, except this window is for delegating SPT.

Screen Shot 2021-09-01 at 12.25.33 AM.png

Enter the username of the person you're delegating to (@monster-curator in my case), enter the amount, and hit "DELEGATE SPT" to complete the process. Within the next 24-48 hours (depending on the time you delegated), you'll receive your first daily payout.

Undelegating SPT

Screen Shot 2021-09-01 at 12.26.29 AM.png

Once the delegation process is complete, the padlock and two-way arrow are replaced with another new icon. This time it's a folder. Clicking on that opens the undelegate window.

Screen Shot 2021-09-01 at 12.26.50 AM.png

When this window opens, there's no information filled out, so you need to know where your SPT is delegated. If you're delegating to multiple accounts, you'll also need to know how much. For this info, we had back to our SplinterTalk Wallet.

Screen Shot 2021-09-01 at 12.21.00 PM.png

Here we see that the amount of SPT that we staked is now listed under SPT Power. It shows us our balance and the negative number below that shows us how much we have delegated. There's also a little "eye" icon next to the amount delegated. If we click that icon, it will bring up a window that sows us where our SPT is delegated to.

Screen Shot 2021-09-01 at 1.20.42 AM.png

This is the info we're looking for. Take note of where and how much SPT is there and head back over to your Hive-Exchange Wallet.

Screen Shot 2021-09-01 at 12.26.29 AM.png

Once there, click on the folder to bring up the undelegate window.

Screen Shot 2021-09-01 at 12.27.14 AM.png

Enter the amount you'd like to undelegate and the name of the user that's currently holding them. After that, click "UNDELEGATE" and the process is complete.

Hopefully this helped you get your SPT staked and delegated so you can earn more!

How much do you earn with the delegation, let's put 1,000 spt?

This was my first time delegating SPT so I can't say for sure.

Here's what @monster-curator had to say about earnings:

"Every 2000 SPT upvote is worth 1000 SPT for the author (and 1000 SPT for the curators). At the current price of SPS and SPT, these 1000 SPT are worth $5 in SPS airdrops and 20 HIVE when you would sell them today. Our 100% upvote is worth 7000 SPT at full voting power - reserved for the very best content!

When you stake und curate (yourself or via us), you can earn a large amount of SPT curation rewards over the year (I don't have the current APR but it is probably higher than 30%), further increasing your SPS airdrops. You can additionally stake your earned SPS and earn staking rewards of currently 365% APR (which will go down over time as more people stake SPS)."

Hope that helps!

Good to know! I just started playing yesterday, and was looking for the right place to publish Splinterlands content. Seems as if I found it. I will remember to delegate SPT in the future :)

Hi @torran,
First of all, let me say, this kind of information is worth a mint. I didn't know any of that and will stake every last token, as soon, as they come in and delegate. These intricacies are hard to master and I'm very thankful for users like you, who teach us Newbies with your posts.

I've got a potentially dumb question, but I wanted to be sure, so I ask it :o).
Do you know, if staked SPT still allow you to earn SPS airdrop token, or are they removed from the pool, as soon, as you stake it?

I mean in your total airdrop points. I made a screenshot from my account, so you know, what I mean.

Hello! Glad I could be of help! As far as I know, you're staked SPT will still count for airdrop points and I believe each SPT is worth 0.25 points each. You might be able to find some better information here. Cheers!

What earnings and such are made from the delegation of this account? Also when deligating those SPT tokens no longer count towards the SPS airdrop for your account correct?

Delegated all to you, does that still count towards SPS airdrop points btw?

Can you explain why this option is better than the option to give upvote on your own? Either way I get curated rewards ...

I have 10000 SPT that I am very much considering delegating to MONSTER-CURATER but I can not understand why this option is better than just being active in HIVE

Please enlighten me

If you upvote at least 10 posts every day without fail, then you likely wouldn't benefit from delegating it. If you only upvote posts every now and then or if you're only upvoting a couple posts every day, then that's where delegation becomes beneficial. It's using all of your delegated voting power every day whether you remember to come here and vote on things or not. Hope this helps!

Been doing that from the start, good explanation especially for all the new people finding their way from splinterlands onto the blog.

SPT value gone up like crazy thanks to the airdrop and the recent release of NFT market.

Do you happen to know how long undelegating and unstaking takes? Don't think I will but who knows if I want to get my hands on some NFT's some day

I think I read somewhere that unstaking SPT is similar to unstaking SPS in that it's a 4 week process which releases 25% each week until the process is complete. I could be wrong though.

I'm not sure when it comes to undelegating. I would think that happens a whole lot faster, if not immediately after submitting the request. My thoughts behind that are that staking locks up your tokens, but delegating is a permissions authorization so a revocation should take less time than unlocking. Hope that helps!

Thanks sure does! my experience is undelegating takes a few days (for the tokens I tried, made a mistake sometimes delegating) rather than weeks. But it might be different for different tokens not sure

Will give it a small try if I ever feel the need to do it

What are the rewards like for staking SPT?

I have 50k staked and I'm earning roughly 50-100 SPT/day but I've been extremely lazy with curating lately. I also have 20k delegated to Monster-Curator and that's earning me another roughly 10-25 SPT/day. Hope that helps!
