👉 Hi everyone, just wanted you to know this post has two versions: an english one and a portuguese one. Enjoy! 👈

English Version

Introduction

Hey everyone, how are ya? I hope you all been feeling great! My name is Matt Schramm, and I'm here to share my experience at the game as a new player not only in Splinterlands, but in the whole play-to-earn/nft games and the Hive. If you want to know more about me, you can always check my introduction post.

This post aims to give you guys a different perspective of the game, while gathering tips from you on the comments. You are not only free to post a comment criticizing my mistakes in the game, but you actually should post it, as it'll teach me (and hopefully others noobs) how to play properlly.

Keep in mind this is NOT a guide, but a collection of my experiences. I am not teaching anything, in fact, I'm seeking knowlowedge.

I started at bronze 4, and now I'm bronze 2. Hopefully, one day, I'll post here about getting the number #1 rank and My Dear Noob Diary becomes My Dear Extremelly Experienced Diary (or something like that 🤠).

Summary

  1. First games.
  2. Cards.
  3. Hive.
  4. Conclusion.

First Games

Everything has a start, and mine was wild. Suddely I was met with a bunch of foreign cards with weird words on them. So, as a simple man, I did what every other simple man would do: pick the cards with the coolest artwork and go for it without a second thought. And who had bet against me were on the wrong side, as I won. And again, and again, and again... aaaand then I got to bronze 3.

No more win streaks. I've got absolutelly demolished.

My friend @underlock then gave me some tips and a really good advice (although kinda obvious): "stop looking only to the images, you idiot. Look at the synergies."

I began following everything he said to every word. I started paying attention to which cards my opponents chose for the battle and why they work so well together. After that, I tried my hand on some deck building of my own, now taking care of keeping the sinergy.

The first deck I liked was an earth one, using Obsidian as the Summonner with a combination of Mycelic Slipspawn and Goblin Psychic. I must say, those two terribly ugly creatures carried me for a long time. I must say i felt invincible! Until I met my biggest nemesis...

Cards

...Djinn Oshannus!!

I cannot express how much I despise this bearded dude with all of my heart. No matter what I did, I would lose to it. No earth deck, no fire deck, nothing would beat discount mermaid.

I must admit, tho, that this fishy guy made me uncover the wonderful world of renting. So all the rage he gave me is almost forgiven.

I went to PeakMonsters and anyway, I started blasting. Finally some good frigging cards. On top of all that opulence dream, I actually had fun. Lots of it. Unlike most play-to-earn game, Splinterlands is, in fact, a real game. I must think and I need to come up with strategies, and not just stare into my screen hoping I mine some coins on a PNG planet.

Still on the topic about cards, my easily-impressed-self favored mages. I don't know if it is a noob trap or not, but it seems magic damage doesn't have any type of downside? They can't miss and won't get blocked by armor, so in what circustancy would I value anyother composition over mage spamming? (Would love to know your opinion).

Hive

My experience with Hive so far has been really great. The amount of people that are helping me through this journey either with advice or by just being friends supporting each other is through the roof.

In fact, if anyone have any discord server they want to share, please feel free to do so on the comments. The more people, the better, am I right? I would also love some other posts to read that you guys think would be helpful for me, either about Splinterlands or Hive in general. Thank you all in advance!

Conclusion

Thank you all for reading this. It's been a really cool experience being part of this game and of Hive. Saying that, I also want to thank @underlock for all of his support on my life.

Many thanks to this post for providing these nice looking dividers.

Comecei no bronze 4, e agora estou no bronze 2. Espero que, um dia, eu poste aqui sobre como consegui o número 1 do ranking e My Dear Noob Diary torne-se My Dear Extremelly Experienced Diary (ou algo assim 🤠).

Índice

  1. Primeiros games.
  2. Cartas.
  3. Hive.

Veja as sinergias."

Cards

...Djinn Oshannus!!

Nada. Nunca superaria a sereia do Paraguai.

Finalmente algumas boas cartas.
