Evolution of the Lore Page art in Splinterlands

Hey, so this has been bothering me for a while, so I just wanted to discuss about the topic of Card artwork on the main website.

I don't think that everyone knows about it, but if you got to your card collection in Splinterlands and open up a card, then for every card there is a "Lore" section.

Obviously there is text about the lore of the card there, but also there is an artwork image of the card to show you how the monster looks outside of the card display.

I took Yodin Zaku as an example from the Untamed collection as I think all of you have seen this card on the battlefield, but not all of you have seen Yodin's Tail or his Claws before, only something you can see on the Lore page.

This is really cool, that you can see extra of the monster from the card, but it's not the same for all of the card editions.

  • Alpha Edition

Alpha did it pretty well, especially for the time. I mean this is the very first set of cards and here I'm willing to forgive for mistakes, if there were any.
The Alpha edition doesn't show you anything extra per se, but it does have a clean artwork, giving us a borderless view of the monster.

  • Beta Edition

Beta edition is amazing, it follows how Alpha did it, but now the images on the cards are more zoomed in and for the first time the Lore page offers us a more detailed view of the monster.
We have a whole new look of the monster, which is perfect in my opinion.
A great experience going through your favorite cards and seeing how they look behind the card.

  • Untamed Edition

Untamed edition follows how Beta did it, but it's even more special since for the first time we got fully new cards with never seen before monsters, and to me this edition just has really special artwork.
Untamed has zoomed in views on the cards and fully borderless zoomed out view with loads of extra details on the lore page.
This is how it's supposed to be done

  • Chaos Legion

Chaos legion has a zoomed in view of the card and a bordered rectangle shaped with a slight background on the lore page.
While we do get a lot of extra detail on the Lore page, to me the rectangular image really takes away from the immersion, I just feel like beyond the border there is so much more to see.

  • Gladiator Set

I feel like on this set, they just gave up.
On the lore page we see pretty much exactly what we see on the card, it's really cut up and has that rectangle border again.
Really badly done, and I really hope we get an overhaul for this set.

  • Rebellion Edition

Rebellion is really important, since this is the latest one we are getting and this dictates what our current standards are.
Rebellion brings us a really open card art for the first time since Alpha and I really like it. On the card itself we have a nice background with pretty much full view of the monster.
But on the lore page we are back to using the rectangular limiting view, while we do get tiny bits of extra, it's just too little.

Suggestion: On the lore page, remove the background (Because we have it on the card anyways and there is a naturally good background behind the cards already) and give us a FULL image of the monster (even if the monster doesn't happen to be a cube or a rectangle).
I know this is just extra work for the creative team, but this game has amazing artwork and I feel like we got so much potential for easter eggs and extras to play around with to make the whole universe much more immersive and cooler.

9/10 for the card
5/10 for the lore page

Let me know in the replies of this post if you knew about the Lore page artwork, do you like it and what are your thoughts on this.

Thanks for reading my post.

I can remember when BETA was just going live. The running joke was zooming in on the Beta cards by 2 or 3x and then claiming that this is what set three will look like. Of course everyone was joking and having a little fun at the time. Nice observations by you, I feel as not many look at the lore pages.

Yeah I know the Zealy campaign is going, but I just find the quests to bee too time consuming or against things that I would want to do.

I will complete things that I'm comfortable doing.

Thanks for the kind words :)
