Is Buy & Rent Profitable

avatar

In this post I will try to make some analysis about buying cards and renting them without playing any matches.

Firstly, It is important to make it clear that the data I use represents the end of the season, even the last hours of the season so rent price is so high and volatile.

My Goal is;

  • See the total sell prices of legendary cards ( Chaos Legion only )
  • See the total rent prices of legendary cards ( Chaos Legion only )
  • Is it worth buying a card to rent?
  • How long does it take for a legendary card to pay for itself?

So let's get started...

These are the regular and gold foil card prices at the end of the season. As I said, prices are very volatile. Ex: Gold Foil Chaos Dragon price is 750 USD ( it is expected to be 100-150 USD ).

What does this table say us is that if you buy full set of Chaos Legion Regular Legendary Cards, you will spend (invest) 285,08 USD and get 11.000 Colection Power (CP). Same for Gold Foil, you will invest 4.127,34 USD and get 275.000 (CP).

Let's see what we will get by investing these cards.

Market price of SPS is 0,15 USD and you should have 11.696 CP for 1 SPS (Daily)

Screen Shot 20220215 at 21.49.06.png

The formula to calculate daily airdrop SPS for regular legendary cards is 500 / 11696 x 0,15 (USD) and for gold cards it is 12500 / 11696 x 0,15 (USD). Rent prices are instant and very volatile (I used the screenshots).

This table shows us if we have regular foil set and rent all our cards at the end of the season (!) we get 1,00 USD daily and for the gold foil it is 24,94 USD/Day.

Question is that Is It Worth of It !

Let's see the comparison.

Screen Shot 20220215 at 22.35.49.png

The Day in this table shows us how many days it takes to get back our investment for a legendary card ( Day=buying price / total daily income ).

At first glance we can say that some cards such as TORRENT FIEND, FUNGUS FIEND, IZA THE FANGED, LIRA THE DARK ( gold foil ) etc. are very profitable and less than 100 days we can get our investment back and start earning money. But it is not totaly true. The following criteria should always be kept in mind.

  • Airdrop will not go on forever. 161 Days remaining !
  • Calculation was made when rental incomes were at the highest value. You may get these prices once a season, the other days they decrease. ( I intend to do the same calculations in the middle of the season )
  • SPS price is variable. It can greatly affect the money you earn.

And the main subject is Is Buy & Rent Profitable?

In my opinion: it is!

Firstly if I will invest cards to rent without playing the game I do not buy such cards such as Doctor Blight and Queen Mycelia. They are expensive and rental income is relatively low. I buy cards with the least payback time. And of course I buy cards that I expect to increase its price in the future.

As a result, the investment strategy I tried to analyze above is only my personal opinion. I hope I was able to give you an idea.

I am aware that I have overlooked many variables in my calculations such as rental fees, variable prices, wasted days with no rental income etc. You can contribute in the comments section.

Rental income for CL is low and probably going to be lower once the Airdrop ends and those who were holding open their packs flooding the market. Love the analysis but I think Rewards Cards would yield better value/return. Then supplementing with CL cards. I'm buying only the cards I plan to use/play with currently. If you think about it, there's barely over 20% CL cards circulating. Get rewards cards that will have increased value once Wild/Modern split happens.

You are totally right, rental income for CL is low. But, I was playing Silver I league and earning nearly 100-200 Dec daily so I decided to rent out all my cards. Today ( 2. day of the season ) I earn 350-400 Dec/Day with my 1.700 USD valued cards. At the end of the season, this figure rises up to 2000 DEC or more.

it's not much, but the daily rental income seems more profitable than playing games, as there are not many good cards coming out of the daily prize chests.

I buy cards with daily rental income and prepare for the next game modes.

Hello, @tyrionluck! I'm @jcrodriguez from the @OCD team. we've seen that you've already published your first post here on Hive!

The best way to start your journey here at Hive is to make an awesome introduction post . As an example of what an introduction post is, you can refer to this introduction post for reference:

Keeping Up With the Buzz - My Introduction to the Hive Community

There is no specific format on how to make your introduction post, but there are some suggested content we would like to see in your post: Information like who you are and where you're from, how you discovered Hive or who invited you, what types of content you want to see here and the types you want to produce, and what your expectations are on this platform. You can choose the information you want to share. This will help other Hivers get to know you and feel comfortable supporting your work here.

Keep in mind that Hive is a bit different from other social media platforms, as you are monetizing your blog, so it's important not to include content you don't own without sources (and it should not exceed 50% of the post). For more information, check out this post – Why and How People Abuse and Plagiarise by hivewatchers. You can also check out this excellent collection of resources to understand how plagiarism and abuse is handled on the platform.

If you have questions or concerns, you can join the OCD Discord server and we will be happy to answer your questions.

Lovesniper will follow you, we hope to see your presentation post soon! You can tag @lovesniper in your introduction post.
