Are My Seasons In Splinterlands Profitable?

Translated by ChatGPT.

This weekend, I will be traveling, and to have fewer difficulties throughout the journey, I decided to make all the preparations now to facilitate my experience of playing Splinterlands on my mobile. When buying DEC to renew my rentals for several days, I wondered if my daily results were effectively profitable or not.

It's been a long time since I did this calculation, and since that time, there have been some changes, the main one being the reduction in daily rewards from the Wild Ranked (yes, I never managed to detach myself from that ranked), which directly impacts my SPS earnings. So, let's calculate and find out if my current earnings exceed the rental expenses.

To make this calculation, we need to compare the current price of SPS with the current price of DEC and compare them with the dollar. Therefore, the result of the calculation may be entirely different if you are reading this post in a few weeks or months. First, we need to assess the daily expense to keep the account "operational", which includes card rentals and SPS, but in my case, there are only card rental costs because I have my own SPS to keep my rewards close to 10x.

You can easily find out how much you spend daily on rentals by visiting the Peakmonsters website and clicking on My Cards. At the top of the window, you will see your username and some information, but what interests us is the Rentals (filterable), which will show your daily expense in DEC to maintain the rentals.

Peakmonsters.

I usually keep the same cards rented and only renew this rental continually, occasionally adding some extra cards that increase this value for a few days. But my average daily cost is approximately 400 DEC . Now it's just a matter of converting this amount into dollars ($), to reach the result of my daily expenses. Using Coinmarketcap, I calculated how much these 400 DEC costs in dollars and also multiplied by 15 to consider my expense for an entire season, so I arrived at two results:

Coinmarketcap.

Now it's a matter of checking how my daily results are and then performing the subtraction. I know that in addition to earnings in SPS , there are also packs and cards that will eventually be released for sale. However, aiming for the best possible sustainability, I will consider only SPS earned in battles and from daily and seasonal chests as rewards, leaving everything else as a bonus.

The easiest way to quantify how many SPS were earned in each season is by using the splex.gg website. You should click on Tools in the top right of the screen and then on Reward Lookup or Season Lookup, search for your @, and you'll be ready to find out if your wins are truly profitable.

Although Season 119 was great, I decided to calculate the average of the last 5 seasons, excluding it to avoid significant deviations.

500+561+292+417+286 = 2,056 / 5 = 411.2 SPS

Also, by converting the values of SPS on Coinmarketcap, I arrived at an average earnings per season of $5.69. In other words, even though in some seasons my seasonal result is negative, the average rewards over seasons have remained almost equal to the costs (except for significant deviations, as was the case in Season 119).

We can then say that I'm maintaining a "break-even" situation, and I consider this positive since all other rewards are 100% profit, making my investment strategy entirely viable. Do you also perform these calculations from time to time to know if you're genuinely profiting, or do you go with the flow, relying on the long term?

These are interesting calculations and it was interesting to see our methodologies. I don't really rent cards at all except for a few GF for brawls occasionally.

I collect cards and I buy them to complete my decks. Whatever I earn in a season, I invest into the system by staking more SPS or selling into DEC so I can buy more cards! In my almost 2 years playing this game, I've never taken profits off of Hive.

In your case, a long-term strategy focusing on the growth of the collection with the aim of card appreciation comes into play.

Definitely a long term strategy! I've been playing Magic the Gathering for the better part of 30 years and it is amazing to see the rise in card prices over time.

Cards I got for $20-$40 back in 1993 are now worth in the hundreds and thousands of dollars due to their collectibility and scarcity. While I don't think Splinterlands will be able to recreate the huge price increases of MtG, I do think that over time we will see an emergence of people who are collectors in addition to players/earners.

I am very excited to see the effect land will have on the in-game economy, especially when it comes to the value of older, more rare cards!

Definitely, it's a great way to think, and it would be interesting for Splinterlands to attract "NFT collectors" to add even more value to the cards.

I fancy myself as a bit of both. I want to collect full sets for the utility of competition, but also for the sheer collectibility of it all. We'll see how well I do collecting Rebellion. I'm still setting money aside!
