Oppressing the Opponent

Translated by ChatGPT.

In my posts about Splinterlands, I always mention that each ability has its usability and can be useful at some point. The major difference lies in how specific the use cases of that ability are, as the more niche its effect, the rarer occasions you'll create strategies with it.

Some abilities can be included in any match because they will always be useful, such as Blast , Bloodlust , Slow , and many others. However, there are some that are so difficult to apply that you generally never create strategies focused on these abilities. The ability I will talk about in today's post is Oppress !

Oppress

Deals double damage when attacking an enemy with No Attack

Despite being a very interesting effect, it's challenging to predict when the opponent will use No Attack cards in their composition. Moreover, there will be few occasions when there are 2 or more cards that would be affected by this ability, making it extremely specific and effective against few enemies.

Considering all the statistics, I imagine that most of you almost never choose a card because it has the Oppress ability but rather due to the entire set of effects they possess, eventually bringing it as a bonus. However, despite being just a bonus, this ability can eventually become quite useful and dictate the course of your battle!

Battle.

In this match, the Keep Your Distance rule limited the choices significantly. Due to the presence of the rule set Up to Eleven , I preferred to avoid using many Magic Damage cards as it would be too easy to suffer from Magic Reflect that many Tanks have. Considering this and the cards available in my collection, I chose Berix Drakeye because of the Martyr ability, enabling two of my other cards to deal damage while fulfilling their support roles. With the effects of Rust + Repair + Tank Heal from these cards, my team became much more solid while removing a significant portion of the opponent's defenses.

It was a big surprise when I saw that the opponent had chosen Almo Cambio as the first Tank. I hadn't seen that card in a long time, and there are few occasions when I face Tanks that have Return Fire . It would be a significant problem if my attackers died to reflected damage, but fortunately, I recently got the Gold Foil Drakeye in a chest, and since it's at level 2, it also has the Oppress ability, which became extremely useful in this situation.

Thanks to the ability that I normally wouldn't use (fortunately, my card had it because it was at level 2), Drakeye was able to cause the exact remaining 6 damage to Almo, eliminating it in the first round and preventing Crustacean King and Merdaali Guardian from healing an incredible 10 Life and 2 Armor of Almo (he repeated this later with Baakjira).

If that happened, in the second round, Axemaster would be eliminated by reflected damage, and my team would be unable to cause enough damage to kill Almo Cambio, making it an easy victory for the opponent. Fortunately, the Oppress ability was present and did its job, ensuring victory in this match for my team!

Batalha.

I've not used a card with oppress in a long time, Infact the ability is not popular and I really didn't know the usefulness. The opponent's card that could return fire was going to be a very big problem, but it was good the almost killed it quickly, it almost eliminated the axemaster. Good win at the end

Oppress has become an extremely valuable ability with the ever-presence of Grimbardun Smith in modern and Berix has become one of my go-to solutions to deal with the power of this new rare promo monster. It also does well against the cards you just mentioned: Almo, Baakjira, and Lord A as well. With the proliferation of all these no-attack monsters getting weapons training, oppress has become more important than ever. I find myself looking for this ability to make sure I have at least one or two oppress monsters on my team. The epic Magi of Chaos has become another standout oppress monsters for me.
