New Market Listings and Fees Announced by Splinterlands

This week the Splinterlands team made an announcement that they will be adding, it was noted in the Town Hall summary and further details are available on the Splinterladns post titled Market Listing Fees & Expiration.

Here is a summary of the post.

The Splinterlands team is planning to introduce a 1 DEC or 1 Credit fee for all new listings and price updates on the Splinterlands card sales and rental markets, as well as adding a 30 day expiration time to both new and existing listings. These changes are currently planned to be released on Tuesday, March 7th, 2023, during the normal maintenance window, and they will require updates for third-party tools and services that perform these operations."

SPLEX.GG Response to the Upcoming Changes

SPLEX.GG has already responded to the upcoming changes. @genepoolchlrn8r posted this announcement in the SPLEX.GG discord server.

Everything below is a direct quote from the announcement post.

It's been a while since we've done an update and we know you all have a lot of questions about the recently posted changes to charge 1 DEC to list cards for rent and update prices.

First and foremost, I want to assure you all that we're aware, we've been working closely with Yaba and others over the last 48 hours to mitigate some of the biggest negatives we saw and the Rent Golem will continue to be here to manage your cards. For those who are curious, we also got it reconfirmed that Splex has been a good partner in all of this and we are absolutely NOT the reason Splinterlands felt the need to make these changes.

For info, Splex is currently managing almost 2.5 million cards and, with the current algorithm, we're doing about ~85k rental transactions and ~970k individual card repricings daily.

On average, this is less than 2 repricings per card per day, but that number is skewed because cards that are rented and cards that are listed at your minimum price for that card are not adjusted.

Our anticipation in this new model is that the service who is better able to leverage historical data for prices and demand and price your cards optimally the first time will have a huge advantage. Reviewing and refining the Rent Golem algorithm had been on our list for awhile, but other things kept getting in the way. These changes will provide the impetus needed to get that done.

Yixn and I have already been discussing ways we think the market will likely adjust as a result of this but in the end, our expectations are just predictions and so the intent is to build in variables that we think will give us the best opportunity to adapt quickly based on how the market actually responds. I'm happy to have discussions with any of you who are interested about what our current thoughts are and get your feedback on what you'd like to see.

The good news here is that we have a TON of data and are well-positioned to come out of this stronger than ever.

Now that's out of the way, Yixn has also been working on completely overhauling our market interface to make it more in line with the Collection Page UI. This will give us a much more efficient UI while simultaneously bringing us powerful filters.

We're also adding in much more robust multi-game support with the Splinterforge Market coming very soon.

You can also now buy Splinterforge Crates for FORGE at https://splex.gg/splinterforge. A portion of the proceeds from your purchases here will be added to the FORGE LPs to help strengthen that ecosystem (and not dilute your LP rewards).

This continues to build on our multi-game support that now includes GLS (GLX Staking and Proposals) and Splinterforge.

We continue to be excited about the opportunities in the ecosystem and hope you will gain with us as we thrive amidst these most recent changes from the Splinterlands team.

My Thoughts

As a user of SPLEX.GG, I'm happy to know that Splex is not the reason Splinterlands felt the need to make these changes. I'm also glad to see that they have responded quickly and I won't need to make any major changes to my rental strategy. Other than potentially combining some cards for better rental income.
