Splinterlands Tournament Win
It has been a long time since I won an official Slinterlands tournament. On Friday I finished 1st place in the Scarred Hand Diamond Beginner Cup which has only the Chaos Legion epoch cards allowed.
Although 40 SPS is not a large sum, I'm pleased to have won my first tournament in so long.

Here is the official tournament link.
My two losses were against @victor-alexander of the Legendary Dragons,

and against @freefrag of T&A Legion IX.

Congrats on the win. I have never finished in first place in a Splinterlands tournament in my nearly 2 years playing this game.
On the other hand, I stopped playing the beginner tournaments a long time ago. I decided it wasn't worth my time and I wanted to let actual beginners have that safe space. I know there are plenty of non-beginners in those events, but at least I know I am doing my part to steer clear. No judgement here, but this is just my personal choice.
At this point, the only tournaments I consistently engage in are the high-end GF events, like the modern and wild wealthy gambit and the gold league GF tournaments. Although my GF collection is mostly CL-based, I do feel like I have a strong enough collection to be able to make day2 of these events which is a very nice payday.
Thanks for your comments, I always appreciate hearing from you.
It's a good point you make about the beginner tournaments. It would be nice if the SPL team came up with better ways to define and structure who is allowed to play in what tournaments.
The main reason I'm playing any tournament I can is for the YGGSPL GAP season. Otherwise entering tournament teams feels like a chore that I have to "get done" and isn't something I enjoy much any longer.
That is exactly how I felt about joining the smaller entry-fee tournaments. I basically gave up on the YGG SPL tournament program. It just isn't for me, because I felt the same way -- the small events totally felt like a chore and I really don't play much at the lower leagues besides the brawl frays in GF modern silver league.
To be honest, besides the increase in the entry fee for higher-level accounts, I think it is up to us to stay out of the beginner tournaments if we don't feel that we are beginners. Just my 2 SPS...
The problem is it depends on how the team defines beginner and what the parameters are.
I consider myself somewhat of a beginner based on the strength of my deck. I have almost maxed CL, almost zero untamed, and a few RW cards. When I play the "invitational" tournaments I typically get slaughtered by veteran players and have to get lucky with a weaker group on day one to make day two.
This interpretation makes sense to me. I didn't quite think of it in terms of collection, but rather time spent in the game. People can always rent to increase the potency of their deck, but you can't really account for gameplay experience.
