Learn Hannibal's Invasion Strategy when you Don't have "Legends" - A Battle Mage Secret Challenge Entry

Hannibal Barca (also written as Anibal Barca) was a Carthaginian general and statesman who commanded the forces of Carthage in their battle against the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War. He took after his father, Hamilcar Barca, who in his time was also a leading Carthaginian general during the First Punic War. Hannibal Barca was known to be a masterful tactician and is widely considered one of finest military leaders in history and the only man that Rome feared.

In what I consider to be on of the major feats of Hannibal Barca was his invasion of Italy in 218 BC with roughly 50,000 foot soldiers, 9,000 cavalry, and 37 elephants. To the astonishment of Romans, Hannibal crossed the Pyrenees, then the river Rhone, then finally the Alps themselves. He did all of these with such speed and efficiency against opposing armies that Rome was stunned. Hannibal's Army won the battle at Trebia, the battle of Lake Trasimene, and the Battle of Cannae.

Hannibal Barca led his Carthaginian army over the Alps and into Italy to take the war directly to the Roman Republic, bypassing Roman and allied land garrisons, and Roman naval dominance. Hannibal's crossing of the Alps in 218 BC was one of the major events of the Second Punic War, and one of the most celebrated achievements of any military. I call this Hannibal 's invasion strategy. and this is the most fascinating me most about the military feats of Hannibal Barca.

This Hannibal 's invasion strategy is just what any "small" team needs to win a battle. This strategy involves ignoring the garrison of strong defense where armors are in use and looking out for ways to hit the most vulnerable areas of the enemy's territory to secure a win. Magic attack monsters in Splinterlands battle are versed with this Hannibal 's invasion skill and you need them to secure a win without legends. Hannibal Barca was credited to have said "We will either find a way, or make one."

The Hannibal 's invasion strategy is the scenario I find most fitting to explain my second battle win with the "lost legendaries" ruleset. This was mde possible by the unsespected magic attack strength of Nerissa Tridawn with the support of Merdaali Guardian monsters. The Lost legendary battle ruleset provides that Legendary units may not be used but that Legendary summoners are still available. Nerissa Tridawn is a non-legendary and non-ability monster but with great strength as of a legend.

My Battle Experience and Strategy

I pooled Five monsters for the 31 manna cap battle, viz: Serpent of Eld, Nerissa Tridawn, Deeplurker, Merdaali Guardian, and Ice Pixie. I had so much hope in the Serpent of Eld monster with its Dodge ability. Sad, it was demoralized alongside Deeplurker. Chances to win the battle was small.

The enemy team was dreading. They had MYLOR CROWLING, an Earth Summoner with Thorns ability that gives the thorn ability to all its monsters at the start of the battle and DISINTEGRATOR, a neutral monster with Demoralize ability that reduces the melee attack of all enemy monsters. These two effects was huge to crumble all melee attack monsters in my team.

The first round of the battle was quite hard for all my melee attack monsters which received return damage each time they attacked due to the Thorns ability of the enemy summoner. Their attacks were also reduced due to the demoralized ability of the lead enemy monster. Thanks to Nerissa Tridawn that made the attacks that grounded DISINTEGRATOR in the enemy team.

By the Third round, Nerissa Tridawn found its way to lead the battle and with the maximum support from Merdaali Guardian with its tank heal ability. The duo stood strong to pierce through the enemy monsters' health till the fifth round when the victory was secured.

It is interesting to note that Nerissa Tridawn has no ability. It depended solely on the unalloyed support of Merdaali Guardian just like Hannibal Barca and his foot soldiers. My team had nothing to do with trying to break the enemy's armors. Nerissa Tridawn focuses on the vulnerable areas - the health and slices them through. Thorns ability from the enemy monsters had affected my melee "powerful attackers" but in subtlety, Nerissa Tridawn secured the win unnoticed with no special abilities. Just the wisdom and Hannibal's Invasion strategy.
