Criss Jami is credited with the words “Confidence is like a dragon where, for every head cut off, two more heads grow back.” Those words are encrypted with much wisdom and require carefulness in its application. Every body-to-body fight requires a lot of strength, wisdom and skills. These three when put together in the right way builds confidence. This is most needed especially when you face a more fiercer or stronger opponent.

In a recent Splinterlands battle which I drew a Close Range ruleset which allows units with ranged attacks to attack in the first position. Ranged attack monsters are one of the deadliest monsters in the Splinterlands game. They would always hit their target each time they strike, hence, they are not allowed to attack from a close range. When the battle ruleset then allows these set of monsters to attack from the first line of the battle, then you've got to have the best team with wisdom, skill and strength where you do not have a counterpart ranged monster to counter the enemy. This was just my experience in this battle.

I rarely use range attack monsters and have just a handful of them in my deck. I'm not just skilled at maximizing them in my battles. Where battle rules only allow range attack monster units, I usually accept defeat ahead of time. It takes a miracle to win in such cases. This time, I decided to be bold with my Magic an melee attack monsters against the enemy team that had a deadly range attack monsters.

My Battle Experience and Strategy

I have built the strength of my Splinterlands deck around water monsters units. I prefer Magic attack units to every other because magic monsters ignore enemy monster's armor to hit their health directly. Nerissa Tridawn, Merdaali Guardian and Deeplurker In fact that trio is my favourite. If the manna cap permits, I would add Ice Pixie.

The enemy's team was led by Cursed Windeku, joined by four other monsters - Corpse Fiend, Soul Strangler, Life Sapper and Ura the Dark. Five monsters in all. Among these monster units in the enemy team, Ura the Dark which was the last was so deadly. Combining Opportunity and Snare ability plus its range attack enhanced by the battle ruleset. It's snare ability allows it to remove flying ability from the enemy it attacks and cannot miss a strike. Cursed Windeku with its thorn ability was a big threat to my melee attack monster.

The first two rounds of the battle looked quite advantageous for my team as we knocked out two of the enemy monsters. We now had what I thought was a balanced rack - three monster units each. However, this is when the fierce battle began. Merdaali Guardian was knocked out of my team and that made my lead monster vulnerable as its health could no more be healed. At this point, my wisdom (magic attack) and tactics (tank heal) were gone. Just strength was left in confidence factor and that all depended on Deeplurker - the melee attacker.

by the end of the fourth round, the enemy had just one monster left. Ura the Dark, the most armed and ability-studded with range attack that cannot miss. It wasn't fun anymore. This one monster unit in the enemy team almost drown all of mine. By the fifth round, it started missing attacks from my meelee attack monster. It missed about Four rounds of strike and I felt that is how everything would end.

The strength of Deeplurker did not fail. It kept stricking despite the miss an Ura the Dark kept missing until the last hit that could no more miss got it destroyed and I won the battle

It was a long 7 round battle but I won. Confidence won ability. The confidence of my last monster was quite motivating.

A key take away in the battle experience as I earlier noted is that Confidence is key for a "Close Range" Fight. Where your heart fails, everything is gone. Build your strength on wisdom and tactics not minding if your opponent looks stronger and more armed.

You can always win life battles if you engage the right strategy!
