How to Weaken the Enemy Team in Splinterlands Battle

It was a long weekend and I'm thrilled to get back active on this Hive. I decided to spice my morning with some games, and Splinterlands was the best option. I drew a standard battle with 41 manna cost cap. Being a standard battle ruleset, I had the opportunity to diversify my monster units as I wanted.

I've not played the Death Splinters for a long time, so I decided to summon the battle with a death summoner - Rekler. Don't ask me why I chose that set of splinters, but if you do I'll answer. This splinter depletes the enemy team by depleting the health of 2 enemy monsters by 2 or gives reflection shield to two friendly monster units.

I would have loved the summoner to gift reflection shield to two of my monster units but then the battlefield was unveiled, the stats of the enemy monster units needed to be weakened before I could win the battle, so I decided to let the summoner less the health of two enemy monsters by -2 each.

Just then, I remembered one of Sun Tzu's war quotes that says "One need not destroy one's enemy. One need only destroy his willingness to engage". He added further that "If you can weaken your opponent's resolve and force them to concede with their nation intact, your victory is more successful" The two quotes informed the selection of my monster units for the battle.

The Weakening Strategy

Thanks to Rekler Summoner and Disintegrator that made it easy to weaken the enemy team for a win in the battle. Dinintegrator is a neutral monster unit with the Demoralize ability that reduces the Melee attack of all enemy units by 1. While I used Rekler to reduce the health counts of the most powerful and most healthy monsters by 2, Disintegrator helped to weaken the attacking strength of the enemy monsters with melee weapon. let's look up the battlefield.

My team was made up of Cursed Windeku (6), Magi Necrosi (6), Moxian Rebel (4), Nimbledook Ranger (7), Disintegrator (7) and Life Saper (3). The enemy team also fielded Cursed Windeku to lead the battle summoned with a Rekler-like summoner that depleted my magic attack and the health of all my monster units by 1. It was meant to be a really fierce battle.

The enemy team together had a health count of 35 and 8 armor counts. On the other hand, my team's total health and armor counts were 24 and 3 respectively. With the above, you would agree that the enemy team was more likely to win the battle. However, the tables turned because of my weakening strategy.

At the end of the first round, both teams still looked strong. No monster unit was damaged. Seeing Cursed Windeku (6) fiercely devouring each other was interesting.

My team lost the first monster at the beginning of the second round. It looked like a defeat until we successfully damaged two of the enemy monster units before the round ended.

One of the enemy's monster unit was well studded in health and armor, but sad, it was not an attacking monster. It took two rounds to damage its armor and health.

The battle lasted for eight rounds and it was a sweet win for my team that finished with 4 units still on rack. We were strong enough to go for another two to three rounds if there were more monsters in the enemy team.

Indeed, nothing beats tweaking or distracting the enemy team in battle, it makes the victory so seamless. I didn't know that the demoralize ability could be that effective, however, it's only active if the enemy team fields melee attack monsters.

SPlinterlands newbie players can learn a lot from this strategy to win battles.

Have you won a Splinterlands battle with the combo of Rekler and Disintegrator? What were your strongest card combinations to weaken the enemy team for a win in Splinterlands battle?
