Ignoring some "Little Things" may Cost you much - A Battle Mage Secret Challenge Entry

The Bible story of of David's fight and triumph against Goliath is a plain reminder that we should not underestimate the big importance that is embedded in "little things". Many times, we miss the joy that little moments could bring into our lives while we stayed miserably expectant of the big moments that may never come. Every journey of a thousand mile starts with a step, this is why every little thing counts.

My journey into crypto started so little with no sign that great things could come out of it. The "little" boy that introduced me to Hive (then Steemit) was way younger than me in everything. I cannot still comprehend why I had to yield to his few minutes of conversations with me that afternoon on January 24, 2018, but that discussion turned out to be one of the most significant moments that have shaped my financial life and career. Writing on Hive was supposed to be a side hustle until when I got endeared to hive-engine tokens and I got engrossed with $LEO and $SPORTS in 2020 which led me to gathering my first million. It was a 52x growth in portfolio triggered by the "little LEO & SPORTS".

I had drawn the little league battle ruleset in Splinterlands game for several times but it didn't really mean anything until I had need for it to participate in this Battle Mage Secret Challenge. I have literally played over 70 Splinterlands battle (exhausted my Battle energy and had to buy more with 20 $DEC). In the course of playing the 70 battles, I have drawn some battle rulesets for 10 times, but the "little league" ruleset would obviously get missing.

Little league provides that only units and summoners with a manna cost of 4 or less may be used. That means that all the highly rated cards with 10, 12 ratings are not needed. Truth however is that highly rated manna cards are never a good option for splinterlands battle as they limit you from accommodating more cards that could give a more interesting combat. I've had lots of useless "big cards" in my deck. Some of those big cards are so costly but have never won a fight for me even in the least of leagues.

My Battle Experience and Strategy

Playing the little league battle ruleset really distinguishes a skilled player from a rich player. That is where the true ability to manage resources play out. Here is the link to my little league battle attempt. It was a 39 manna battle and that already was not a good signal for me. I've not got lots of those small manna cards with huge stats. Drawing a high manna cap for such a battle would only be advantageous when you have a lot to choose from.

Trying to be careful to set my team - almost ran out of time

My favourite cards are with water splinters. Selecting the Water summoner revealed that I had less cards with manna cap of 4 and below, so I decided to go for Fire cards with Tarsa as the summoner. I battled against Kelya Frendul. My choice for Tarsa was to add health and attack stats to my monsters.

My monster team was mad up of Antoid Platoon, Kobold Bruiser, Magma Troll, Serpentine Spy, Scavo Hireling, and Venari Spellsmith, in order of placement in the battlefield. I'm not used to all of these cards except for Antoid Platoon placed to lead the battle. The shield ability it possesses makes it fitting for the first place in battle to reduce melee and range attack damages from enemy monsters. Sometimes, the attack would not even make a damage. Below are screenshot of the first an last round of the fight.

The battle lasted for 5 rounds but I lost, successfully destroying only two of the enemy cards. It showed how much I have been coveting to buy "big cards" without looking out to maximize the "little cards" I have.

Lesson learned! Indeed, little is big when properly managed. Never ignore or underestimate some little things, it may cost you much!

Splinterlands game is termed the "next generation of collectible card games" in which allows players to collect, trade, and battle with provably scarce digital collectibles with real-world value.
