"Keep Your Distance" but Choose the Right Weapons - A Battle Mage Secret Challenge Entry

The first time I heard the saying "He who sups with the devil should have a long spoon", it was hard to process. Questions like "why do I need to sup with my enemy had cropped up in my mind. However, such enemies may not look like they are likely because they are hypocrites. They are friends that could look nice in the outside but their hearts are bitter. They could go a long way to be diabolic. This is just what magic and ranged attack monsters represent in the Splinterlands game. Their weapons don't look but are really bad. You just need to keep your distance to be safe from their attacks.

Keeping the distance implies that you arm yourself with the tools that can easily neutralize the unsuspected weapons of the enemy. If you must revenge, you also need a commensurate arsenal that also strikes from a distance. This is what the Keep Your Distance battle ruleset entails in the Splinterlands game. Below is the specific description of the battle condition:

Units with melee attacks may not be used.
Units with 2 types of attack (which include melee) cannot be used.
Use Phase, Void, Void Armor, and Magic Reflect to counter magic attacks.
Use Headwinds and Return Fire to counter ranged attacks.

Using ranges attack monsters for Splinterlands battle is quite a hard one for me. However, ranged attacks are usually on target. I'm used to always flaunting magic and melee attacks. I prefer the magic attack monsters due to thei subtle way to targeting the health of the day enemy monsters and this makes defeat more easier.

My Battle Experience and Strategy

Having drawn the keep your distance ruleset, which permits the use of Ranged and magic attack monsters, I hurried to select the Zyriel card, the first Dual-Element card in Splinterlands to lead the battle. Zyriel is designed with Life leach, Divine Shield, Rust and Weapons Training abilities and looks much like a very powerful ranged attack monster. As long as the manna cap could permit, My card only had the Weapons Training and Life leach abilities. I never bothered so much about how all of that functions except that its health can increase each time it damages the enemy's health.

I added Portal Spinner and Time mage monsters for the battle. I've really known Time Mage to be good at reducing the speed of all enemy monsters with its slow ability. Three monsters against Three monsters, but certainly, I had selected the worst set of cards for the fight. Oops! I lost the battle. A woeful loss at that. See screenshots below:

My time was off at the second round of the fight and the enemy monsters weall alive, The enemy team either didn't use monsters with advantageous abilities. Just magic and ranged attack monsters, but none with the phase, Void, Void Armor, and Magic Reflect abilities. I think I lost because I didn't choose the right weapons.
