Learn through your Tasks

Aristotle and Richard Branson are linked to my favourite quotes bothering learning through a task. Aristotle said "for the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them." It follows that sometimes, our best learning moments has to be when there's a problem to fix. If the problems never surfaces, there wpu;d not have been the need for the knowledge. Yeah, sometimes such problems cannot even be pre-empted or forecasted.

On his part, Richard Branson advised thus: "if somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later!". I've worn that shoe quite for some times and it was never an easy bite but the undetaking was worth the stress. Each time, it left me with a wealth of experience that can always be applied without fears. This has been the case when I first drew the "Keep Your Distance" Splinterlands battle ruleset. It's one of the scarcest rulest I've drawn in my Splinterlands battle experiences.

Ideally, understanding and maximizing the different battle ruleset in Splinterlands game demand an in-depth research and consistent play. Funny that you can't select your choice battle ruleset. It's auto selected and that means you've got to keep playing as many times probably you draw it. Thanks for the feature that makes you play as much battles as you wish daily. The different battle rulesets demand that a player hold a card NFT deck with varieties of cards through the different card sets, abilities and attack types.

Doing a careful study of the "Keep Your Distance" battle ruleset after my first battle experience meant a lot. Remember, you've got few minutes (that cannot be paused) to select your team and that is never enough to go lookup how the drawn ruleset works. You just have to learn through it the first time you draw it.

Keep Your Distance battle ruleset demand that Units with melee attacks may not be used. Also, units with 2 types of attack (which include melee) cannot be used. It simply involves battling at a distance with wither a ranged or magic attack. The first strength is not really important for a distant fight. All you need is the right arsenals that won't miss its target as well as the right arsenals that would keep you safe from the enemy's darts.

My Battle Experience

In Keep Your Distance battle ruleset, using monsters with Phase, Void, Void Armor, and Magic Reflect abilities can help you counter magic attacks. On the other hand, monsters with Headwinds and Return Fire can counter ranged attacks. Through the "Keep Your Distance" battle ruleset, I learnt about abilities like Phase and Headwinds for the first time.

I didn't have the time to learn he best card cpomnination for this battle ruleset, as such, I I choose 3 monsters for the fight, including: Zyriel, Portal Spinner and Time mage. It was a 20 manna cap battle. My main take for the battle were Zyriel and Time mage. Those were the hit cards I could spot in my deck for the fight, but they underperformed. I lost the fight at the second round. See battle here.

Ideal Cards for "Keep Your Distance" battle

When "Keep Your Distance" battle ruleset is drawn, the following abilities should be prioritized in the cards selection:

  • Phase Ability: Monsters with this ability have a chance to dodge Magic-based attacks, however, all accuracy mechanics will apply to the attacking monster's accuracy
  • Void: Void ability reduces damage from Magic attacks." Attack damage gets halved (rounded up), except attack 1 which deals 0 damage.
  • Magic reflect or Return Fire; "When this monster is hit with a Magic attack, it does reduced Magic damage back to the attacker." Damage returned is equal to damage of attacker divided by 2, rounded up.
  • Headwinds: Monsters with this ability reduces the Ranged attack of all enemy Monsters." Monsters affected by the headwinds lose 1 point of ranged attack power.
    Can be Cleansed

All the recommended monster ability for an effective fight under this ruleset are predeominantly defensive monsters.. That is, all abilities mentioned above are aimed to reduce or dode the ranged or magic attack from enemy monsters.

I did not know I had Ash mirage with the headwinds ability which could have been a good fit for the battle, plus that it is a range attack monster. I really missed big there and got so dissapointed by Zyriel's perfoemance. I learmt my lesssons the hard way but it was a worthy lesson.

I now lookup battle rulesets ahead of time and categorize fitting cards on my deck in case i draw the said ruleset.

Conclusion

Leveraging on my enhanced knowledge, my second battle with the Keep Your Distance battle ruleset will be better and more engaging. Very hopeful!
