Most Epic Splinterlands Battle Experience with Reverse Speed! - Social Media Challenge Entry

One of Sun Tzu's famous war quotes is that Speed is the essence of War. He explains that you have to exploit the enemy's unpreparedness; attack him unawares; take an unexpected route. This implies being so fast with the execution that the enemy only realizes when the harm has been done already. However, one of my "most epic battle experiences" in the Splinterlands game is that which suppressed the advantage of speed - the Reverse speed ruleset.

The Reverse speed ruleset in SPlinterlands battle allows units with lower speeds to attack before units with higher speeds. This also makes attack accuracy based on speed to be reversed. The battle ruleset also provides that units with the Bloodlust ability will increase speed after killing a unit, thus, using a monster or summoner with the "slow" ability will help the opponent.

I've had several defeats each time I selected this ruleset because I was always obsessed with looking for the monster unit with the best of stats but with a lower speed. I didn't have lots of that in my card collection. At another time, I chose monster units with big stats and with high speed with the feeling that the attacking strength of the monster would overwhelm the speed effect, but I always got it wrong.

A Summoner Tweak made the whole difference

I've always been a big fan of the water cards and my best summoner is Kelya Frendul because it adds speed and armor to my monster nits. You see, the "reverse speed" ruleset is an anti-win ruleset for me who loves to be the first to strike. Nevertheless, I chose Tarsa summoner for this particular battle. Tarsa is a fire summoner with 4 manna and an estimated power of 20 at level 1. Its power graduates to 2,415 at its highest level - 8th.

The summoner adds +1 Melee Attack and +1 Health to all friendly monsters. It's surprising why the summoner does not add speed to friendly monsters even when its lore states that Tarsa was born with fire in her blood, quick-tempered; she used her abilities to bully and threaten those who get in her way. She always gets what Tarsa wants. That should have been the feature of a hasty battle summoner

With Tarsa, I had the opportunity to improve the attack of my low-speed monsters. It turned out to have been the best summoner choice for that battle ruleset, however, I was not sure of a win since I hadn't one before. Tarsa summoned Living Lava (7) and Tenyll Striker (5) for the battle rated 16 manna cap. The duo had to face a set of 4 monsters that summoned by a summoner that depleted the armor of my monster units by -2. Removing 2 armor counts from monster units that only received +1 health was already so devastating at the start. Thoughs of a win on the battle was already gone.

The Battle Experience

The battle started with two monster units to face four. My lead monster had the shiled ability that reduces melee attack by 50% while the last monster possess the sneak ability that makes it attack enemy monsters on the second line. My highest monster speed was 2 while the enemy monsters fielded a 5 speed monster.

My monster units had good attack stats. Living Lava posseses 4 melee attack while Tenyll Striker posseses 3 melee attack. At the end of the first round, the enemy team had one monster unit ndown, thanks to Tenyll striker that struck the last monster. That was a signal of hope for my team.

By the end of the Second round, the enemy team lost another unit, this time, thanks to Living lava with the massive -4 strike. In fact, the enemy team could have lost another if not for the missed strike by Tenyll.

A Flawless Win and Lessons

The third round rounded the victory for my team. Tenyll made the last strike to end the battle. My team's unit still had 7 health intact (half of what we started with) at the end of the battle. I call it a flawless win.

That battle has been a very interesting one, glad I won.It however negates the philosophy that speed is the essence of war. Sometimes, life's success is not achieved in a haste." Slow and steady" could be the best strategy to win. However, it is valid that speed is an enhancer, but when you don't have it, be sure you have a great strategy of other combining factors.
