Never get Caught by the " Fog" when at "War" - A Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets Challenge Entry

One of Sun Tzu's famous quotes from 'The Art of War' - Parade that defines a strategy to win battles states "the whole secret lies in confusing the enemy so that he cannot fathom our real intent.” This clearly tells that setting up the enemy team into confusion will prevent them from maximizing their opportunities. This is what Fog of war ruleset in Splinterlands represent.

Generally, "fog of war" is a term used to describe the uncertainty and confusion that arises during military operations due to lack of information about the enemy's intentions, capabilities, and movements. It refers to the difficulty in making decisions because of incomplete or inaccurate information.

In the Splinterlands battle, the Fog of War ruleset provides that all units lose the Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity abilities. However, scattershot still works in this ruleset.

The sneak ability for instance makes the possessing unit to target it's attack on the last unit in the enemy team. The unit with opportunity ability on the other targets the enemy unit with the least health. Losing these abilities makes the team to be aimless and random in their approach to the battle.

The fog of war ruleset also allows for scattershot to work which typically refers to a strategy or approach that is characterized by being haphazard, random, or lacking in focus. It often involves trying multiple methods or ideas without a clear plan or direction. It can also refer to something that is widely spread out or dispersed.

There is a popular saying that he who fails to plan actually plans to fail. This is a call to carefulness in ensuring that each time we live without goals, there are tendencies of losing our to life's challenges.

When I drew this battle with a manna cost cap of 28, I was actually confused. This is because my best of units are those with opportunity or sneak abilities. I actually summoned the battle with Kelya Frendul. My monster picks were Serpent of Eld (7), Nerissa Tridawn (9), River Nymph (4), Merdaali Guardian (3), and Hardy Stonefish (1). There was no specific reasons for selecting those monsters, I just needed monsters with high attack stats being that the summoner would add speed and defense stats to all friendly monsters.

Th first round of the battle looked juicy for my team as we successfully destroyed the lead monster in the enemy team. However, subsequent rounds exposed the lack of strategy in my team and shows how confused my monsters were you the battle. See screenshots below.

Sadly, we lost the battle, however, it's good that I learnt my lessons. Its never a good strategy to go to a battle without a defined winning strategy. My team was just confused and that is what the "Fog of war" ruleset is designed for.

Just think of driving out without good headlamps in the face of a thick snow fall or heavy rainfall, vision cannot be clear and that's a pointer to an imminent tragedy. Never get got by the fogs.

Have you played a SPlinterlands Battle with "fog of war"? What was your winning strategy?
