"Reverse Speed" requires Better Strategy - A Splinterlands' Battle Mage Secret Challenge Entry

Sun Tzu (543 to 495 BC), ancient Chinese military general, strategist and philosopher from the Zhou Dynasty is linked with the famous war quote "speed is the essence of war." He furthers that a warrior should be able to take advantage of the enemy's unpreparedness; travel by unexpected routes and strike him where he has taken no precautions. Underneath those words lie a depth of wisdom that speed is not all that is needed to win the war, but the preparedness and strategy that informs the warrior to strike the enemy at the most vulnerable point is what gives value to the speed.

"Many will Start fast but few will finish strong" is an assertion held by Gary Ryan Blair. Finishing strong is key and should be the goal of every team rather than a shabby work done hurriedly. This is is why it is said that “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." A time comes when we lose speed and have to concentrate more on our strategy. Think of the oldies who can't run a marathon but their wisdom is priceless.

The set of rules governing Reverse Speed is that units with lower speeds will attack before units with higher speeds. That means a monster unit with 1 Speed would always be the first to attack. Also, attack accuracy based on speed will also be reversed. Moreover, units with the bloodlust ability will increase speed after killing a unit. The reverse speed ruleset makes an ability that was meant to inhibit the enemy's speed like "slow" to become an advantage to the enemy.

My Battle Experience

I drew this 16 manna cap Battle link and luckily it was another Reverse speed battle. I had to learn from my previous fail experience to make the post of the second opportunity I had. The manna cap could only allow me chose two monster units for the fight - Living lava (7) and Tenyll Striker (5) and they were summoned by Tarsa, a fire splinter summoner.

Living lava has a shield ability that reduces damage from melee and ranged attacks by 50%. That was an advantage as 75% of my enemy monstr units were either melee or ranged attack monters. It's 3 melee attack and 6 health counts were good stats to start with. Given a melee attack and health boost from Tarsa summoner made a lot of sense. Tenyll Strker is a reliable fire monster unit with sneak ability that targets the last unit on the enemy's team. This makes an all round attack possible.

By the end of the first round of the battle, Tenyll Strker was able to bring down the last monster unit in the enemy team. That was an indication of a win for me as the remaining units had less health and no armor defense.

After the second round of the battle, Tenyll Strker brought down another monster unit and that squared the battlefield with two monsters for each combating teams.

The battle at the third round became a lot easier for my team that successfully and flawlessly thrashed out all enemy monsters . It was quite easier than I had expected at the start of the battle.

The secret of winning that battle was the choice of the right summoner that boosted the attack and health stats of my team. Positioning Tenyll Strker at the rear is the best place for its optimum operation. This show show strategy leads to a win even when speed was a disadvantage.

Winning the battle was soothing for me and it made me forget the previous loss. I would be glad to engage that lineup again and again if I draw the ruleset with a manna cap that can accommodate both monster units.

This ruleset teaches me to build a Splinterlands deck that is diverse. While the high stats cards look promising, the less studded cards do also have their places in certain conditions as this as created by the ruleset.
