Uriel The Purifier x Time Mage: How to Win Battles with Speed Maneuvers in Splinterlands

Winning battles in Splinterlands require a couple of factors especially when you are not aware of the composition of the enemy's team. Sometimes, it could be harder to win standard battles since rulesets can be to an advantage due to the set of cards you possess. This is not so with standard battles that give everyone a level playground.

Every player must be able to define his strategy and card combinations that lead to a win in different battle conditions. In my personal experience, it is harder to win battles with some special cards that look so studded with abilities. This happens because there are positions that allow the cards to perform at their optimum.

Uriel The Purifier is one of the best cards in my rack but I've barely won battles with it. Many times, it turns out to be the most attacked Unit on the battlefield. The life card is from the Chaos Legion cards set and at its simplest form has the Flying and recharge abilities.

Recharge ability in SPlinterlands battle provides that the monster unit that possesses it attacks every other round but does 3x damage. Losing a round and waiting for the next can be very disastrous where the card becomes the target of every other enemy monster, because, by the time it gets ready, it would have been destroyed. That has always been the case each time I used Uriel The Purifier, but today, I got it right.

I decided to position Uriel The Purifier at the first line of the battle. Its Flying ability gives it a 25% bonus chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from units that do not have the flying ability. I only prayed that the enemy team had fewer or no flying monster units. In a bid to further secure Uriel the Purifier, I selected Time Mage to join the battle.

Time mage unit has the slow ability. This ability reduces the Speed of all enemy Monsters. However, one must be careful not to use monsters with this ability in the Reverse speed ruleset; as doing so is to buff the enemy's team. My goal was to ensure that my monster units attacked first while the enemy monsters attacked later, so I could maximize the 3x damage from Uriel The Purifier. Doling out -9 damage on the enemy is a booster any player would want to win a battle.

It is the first time I'm using the Recharge x Slow cards combination for a standard battle and it fared out well. My team was made up of Uriel The Purifier (11), Stitch Leech (3), Time Mage (4), and Gargoya Scrapper (1), with Avina of the Wolf summoning the battle. This summoner gives +2 Speed to Two Units or gives heal to One Unit. The essence of using this card was to edge my team's monster speed to attack first.

Stitch Leech has the sneak ability that targets the last unit on the enemy team instead of the first unit. My last monster did not have any special ability, I only placed it to shield Time Mage from a sneak Monster unit in the enemy team. Below is the tactic stage of the battle.

It was surprising that at the start of the battle, the summoner abilities were not active as the speeds of my monsters did not change, and so did the abilities of the enemy monster units. I was already hyped to give 9 damage that'll kill each target at one blow.

At the end of the first round, all monster units on the battlefield were intact. Thanks to Time Mage that slowed the enemy team monsters. Stitch Leech could only make a single attack at the last unit in the enemy team and that was enough to risk the team by the next round.

In the second round, it was thrilling to see Uriel the Purifier blow out 9 melee damage to the enemy lead monster. Thanks to its armor that wasted my 8 attack. Stitch Leech was only able to kill the last monster in the enemy team by this round.

At the end of the third round, Stitch Leech did another damage to the last monster and took out two monsters on the battlefield, leaving UrielThe Purifier to deal with the remaining monsters in the enemy team with the 3x melee attack in the 4th and 6th rounds.

We secured a clean win. All my monster units were intact at the end of the battle and that was good enough. Uriel attacked thrice and that was enough to win the battle.

Winning Strategy

  • Slow ability from Time Mage gave my team an edge in attack positions.
  • Uriel the Purifier made a 9 melee attack damage each time it attacked and that was enough to kill its target.
  • Stitch Leech did a good job cleaning the last monsters in the enemy team.

Have you won a Splinterlands battle with Uriel The Purifier card, What were your strongest card combinations and the best strategy for a win?
