Battle Mage Secrets: Equal Opportunity - Don't Get Caught Low

Hi all, hope all is well for you and it is time for another Battle Mage Secrets. Last week, we looked at a ruleset that allowed small cards to grow to the size of those that are bigger. This week, we discuss on a ruleset that gives cards the ability to pick out the weakest link on your opponent's lineup.

Equal Opportunity

Description:

• All units gain the opportunity ability which allows them to attack the unit with the lowest health on the enemy team.

What thrives with this ruleset?
This is also a very unique ruleset. Other than units without attack of any form, every unit gains opportunity. To do well for this ruleset, we need to look at both the offensive aspect and defensive aspect of this.

Let us examine the offence portion first. For me, this is a match that you can even use cards that you normally use as tanks in the middle of the lineup. It would be even better if they have double strikes or double attacks. Such cards include Coastal Sentry and Possessed Puppet which are awesome in this ruleset. Another good one to note will cards with Blast. These are cards that can truly wreck your opponent lineup as they can even strike right at the middle of your lineup, example of such a card will be Exploding Rats. Fast cards will do you good as you get to strike first and take out tough cards before they strike you.

Now let's look at the defence part. Since we know attacks can come from anywhere and everywhere, so additional armour will do good. Protect is good as it gives the whole lineup +2 armour. Another good one to have is actually Astral Entity which gives the whole lineup dodge, making the aggressor hard to land their attacks. Taunt is something worth considering so that you can divert all the attacks to one card to keep other important cards alive. Next will be Martyr, which opens an invitation to opponent to strike it so that the dying card boost your card's stats. And finally due to the blast possibility that I've mentioned earlier, you can also include Reflection Shield Near the cards that are likely to get blast to death for some protection.

Stats wise, higher is the right direction to go for all kinds of stats.

With these in mind, let's start to talk about the battle proper.

Prediction before pressing rumble
Wands Out is a ruleset that many always struggle to fill every single slot. Though my opponent did not manage to fill all cards, the Immortalis that my opponent use is a problem/nemesis as it effectively shave off my magic bonus and also give me a -1 health debuff.

Both my opponent and I used Mycelic Slipspawn which is awesome with the taunt. Let's battle.

Battle Synopsis

Round 1, Loads of magic barrage flying across everywhere with both Slipspawns going ridiculously low in health but no casualties this round.

Round 2, Upon opponent's Slipspawn falling to my Quora, Quora gain Blood Lust stats and also allowed the rest of the team to strike with the opportunity. A lone 1 health Goblin Psychic remained after the barrage.

Round 3, A simple flick by Regal Peryton and this is it for the taking. A well deserved victory!

Post Battle Summary
Immortalis indeed look scary. But when we are able to remove the taunt card, everything just accelerated.

Did my strategy work? I used my Taunt card while planting heavy attackers right at the front in Quora to chomp up the frontline. I also ensured I used bigger health cards to ensure longer survivability. And this combination of backline big hitters, front hitter and also the Taunt worked well as a team and give trouble to opponent. Opponent also used the same strategy and enhanced it with Immortalis, but the lack of depth of card arsenal gave me the edge.

What's the Battle Mage Secret?

The Battle Mage Secret that I would like to share today is essentially how to divert attacks so that low health cards can be avoided from being picked out by opponent.

If you saw how the match went, when my opponent whom had the same idea with Taunt, once the Mycelic Slipspawn falls, all hell break lose, my cards that have slightly higher HP outlast while zapping all the low health ones on my opponent's lineup.

So the key here is, if we are to use low health cards, make sure you have a Taunt card to babysit it while you unleash the damage to opponent. However, once the Taunt card is gone, you will get caught. so before it happen, make sure you strike first with higher speed cards.
