Share Your Battle: Flying Squid
Prelude
Hello everybody, it's time again for Share Your Battle. Yes, finally a water splinter and I did had a water focus this week. So let's get started.
Thoughts on Flying Squid
Squids are marine creatures, so to say that it is flying, it would probably be denoted by the speed it can move through the water. But with its speed, it will be a devastating foe to meet and will be a constant threat to sailing ships.
Let's examine the base stats of Lvl 1 Flying Squid.
Mana | Attack | Health | Speed | Armour | Ability |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
7 | 2 (Melee) | 8 | 3 | NA | Reach |
Bronze League - Attack +1,
Silver League - Speed +1, Health + 1
Gold League - Speed + 1, Blind
Beyond Gold - Health +1, Backfire
If we look at the growth of Flying Squid, what I see is really stronger and faster. On top of that, blind is gained which makes it harder to get hit and also a punishment later in the form of backfire for being unable to hit it.
This is something that I would like to own and grow. How good it is? Let's see how it fares in a battle.

- Position 3 - Sand Worm
- Position 4 - Serpentine Spy
- Position 5 - Tenyii Striker
- Position 6 - Xenith Monk
Prediction before pressing rumble
2 mean melee lineup from both splinters. May the best one win.
Let's get ready to rumble
Round 1, Opportunist Deeplurker took out Serpentine spy! Stonefish absorbed some mean backline damage from opponent sneakers.
Round 2, Xenith Monk smashed, everything else in tact.
Round 3, Opponent Sand Worm and Tenyii Striker taken out, my Diemonshark also being taken out. The speed of Flying Squid helped it dodge an attack.
Round 4/5, My lineup taking up the scraps and securing the victory. Good job team!
After Thoughts
Flying Squid is a good addition to water lineup. Easy to fit in and able to do damage while hiding behind tanks like Diemonshark or Serpent of Eld. It's high health is also important to help prevent early breakdown to middle or back of lineup. The speed is equally important to help it gain some dodging.
However, there is one thing which will pose a problem when playing Flying Squid. By itself, Flying Squid cannot carry itself will not be a choice for low mana match such as the like of Djinn Oshannus. It will somehow be part of a combination lineup or even high mana lineup to be a contributor.
Did Flying Squid fit my strategy? For sure it did, a complete lineup will always be good to have a tank and an off-tank with reach like how Flying Squid is.
Will I pick Flying Squid for another match like this? I am sure I will, it provides health and complements attack from tank monster. However, if on a tighter mana requirement, a Tide Biter can come in handy at 4 mana with reach ability.
Nevertheless, still an awesome card to own and level up knowing how much stronger it becomes as it levels up. Rent 1 to try or grab a copy for yourself today if you haven't!
