It should still be possible to create a free account on leofinance, ecency or asking some Hiver with Account Creation Tokens to send an invite or to create one on one's behalf. The other alternative is to pay a small fee and use one of the paid services listed on https://signup.hive.io/

okay I see. Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that some of the methods cost money. That may explain why none of the people I've told have signed up lol.
