Gala Games, AMC, and Ember Entertainment Presents The Walking Dead: Empires on Blockchain + Criticisms on NFTs + Why I Invest in HIVE NFTs

avatar

Gala Games, AMC, and Ember Entertainment have come together to cash out on NFT hype and little bit of that blockchain "Land" which games like @splinterlands got into a long time before it was cool. Decentraland was on to it even more years ago. The best part for me is the involvement of Gala Games that is trying to do a lot to help blockchain gaming industry grow, Other than that all I see is a cash grab.

I came across the game while using Brave Browser. The game had a strong campaign on Brave when it first released. There is already some expensive NFTs lying around on Gala Games website. You can visit the official game website here.

Developer AMA (January 21st, 2022)

My Thoughts As An Investor

I have no long term interest in the project. My initial impression is that the design mimics Free 2 Play style heavily and it doesn't seem to have a great deal of care a attention given to economics. The Walking Dead: Empires feels like a project designed by a marketing and sales team with some collaboration with few creative people.

Hype can drive the price for the short term. The Walking Dead is one of the most well known and biggest IPs in television. Those who are not well versed in economics are not going to see through the initial charade.

NFTs Have Poor Reception Among Gamers and Artists

The world is full of those who never take time to look at a technology and see how it can transform the world. Some people have a inattentional blindness towards positivity. It is not unlike there are so many things that are wrong with NFTs either.

OpenSea is a Centralized Mess

TechLead explains many of these criticisms in a very concise way. Moxie Marlinspike explored Web 3 and offered some strong criticisms and I'm glad he did. Here is a response from Mike Hearn. There are others who provided their counter arguments as well. The important part to focus on is the massive amount of centralization.

HIVE Does Better

@splinterlands is our flagship. We also have others like https://www.risingstargame.com @dcitygame @exodegame and many others. The most important part is not the asset itself but the utility of the said NFT.

We have projects like @nftshowroom that store the images on IPFS. You can take a look at one of the NFTs I own on HIVE which I can transfer with no fees and the creator was @starmasayume able to mint with very little cost.

Games Offer Passive Income

I'm making 20,000 DEC each Season from renting out my @splinterlands Cards. I also make over 10,000 DEC each Season from playing the game. In a worst case scenario, that is $60 income every month. Currently that is close to $200. This is the value of my Cards right now:

Splinterlands.png

Those are not bad numbers at all. HIVE games have NFTs as an income generating asset. The same goes for other blockchain games like Gods Unchained, Axie Infinity etc.

Don't Forget @risingstargame

The game is steadily growing and I ahve nothing but good things to say about the developers who kept on improving the game even during the long bear market we had for years. These days you can even stake your in game currency (STARBITS) on NFT music tracks and earn income.

Record Staking.png

Currently I can be making 5,000 STARBITS per day or even more by playing the game. This is possible because of the NFT collection I have created over an year. Currently the value is around 1.5 HIVE. STARBITS and HIVE has some corelationship because Booster Packs assume 10,000 STARBITS = 4 HIVE rate at purchase.

Value.png

The best thing you can do at the moment is educating others with the better things on blockchains like HIVE. There is going to be millions of people exposed to NFT games and #Play2Earn with the involvement of these large scale IPs. Don't let these noobs form their opinions based on some low tier cash grab products.

Happy Investing!

The most important part is not the asset itself but the utility of the said NFT.

Well said, this would be the key parameter when involving with any new or existing NFT based game/project.

Great to see that I'm not alone here. I put heavy emphasis on non-speculative value. Even if many of these HIVE games didn't have a cryptocurrency associated, they could still be played and enjoyed by many. If people are using something, they can put a value to it. Cryptocurrency gets away with the middlemen in the business and takes MMO games to the next level.

If what we have seen with cosmetics in traditional games is anything to go by, @splinterlands Skins are going to be a very big deal. It is one of the biggest underrated gems I know. I have bough 1 of every single @splinterland Skin in existence.

I couldn't agree more.

I was and have been thinking the same thing and will do so sooner or later. Hopefully, the rest of the skins will last that long.

It is very under the radar. Almost no one is buying. You will have some time left.

I'm actually pretty excited about Gala Games Mirandus myself... but Gala Games the company is super frustrating. The never-ending hype and incredibly expensive NFTs is exhausting to watch. They're also releasing a card game like Splinterlands which isn't scheduled to be released for a year or two, but they're already selling arenas/land for it which feels like such a cash grab. The actual players who'll play the game won't have a chance for arenas (because they'd be sold years earlier) and the people who did buy them won't be able to use them unless they're active in the game. Gala Games seem like absolute experts are extracting funds from their fans with only having Townstar to back themselves.
