Best Summoner deals right now - value for money - Modern format

Since the market is down a lot and a lot of summoners have become affordable I decided to write an article about the best deals and best summoners in every league. This time I will write about the Modern format and in a week I will go for the Wild format as well(the one that is more fun to play).

So let's get started! Remember that summoners are ranged by cost-effectiveness. That means there may be better cards that are not on the list but you should invest a lot of money for those cards. If you see a card that is expensive and it is on top - it means that it is an excellent card.

There are a lot of BCX available when we are talking about modern cards, therefore those cards are affordable as well. At least more affordable than older editions of the cards. You will notice that summoners introduced in the Chaos Legion are dominating this list. That is why those cards are not expensive and they are really good. Some cards like Yodin and Kitty are not mentioned at all, but I am taking that as a good thing since most of the players can't afford to buy those cards, especially if you are trying to play at a higher level.

The bronze league is one that is easy and cheap to enter, even when we are talking about the summoners that are usually the most expensive cards in the game. Some cards really surprised me with the price such as Tarsa. Fire splinter was always strong and now it became the second cheapest splinter to invest in, after the Life splinter. Obsidian is a modern version of Alric Strombringer though it may be hard to pull off those low-mana combos. Kelya is just amazing in combination with Djinn Osannus and all other amazing Water Splinter cards. Drake of Arnak is a really interesting option that will allow you to tap in Dragons. If you are on the budget he could be your pick instead of Quix the Devious which is the better choice if you are playing in higher leagues. Mylor Crowling is just amazing in the Bronze league but he is quite expensive with a 27 USD price tag. Even renting can cost you quite a lot.

If you ask me, Tarsa, Obsidian, and Kelya are the best picks for the Bronze League. You can add something another Dragon summoner to that like Drake, Quix, or Camila, depending on what your playstyle is and what you want to counter. If you are playing a lot aginst magic teams then even Bortus can be a nice pick.

Even in the Silver league summoners are way more expensive, and you will need a few hundred USD to get decent summoners plus a solid team. Of course, you can rent summoners and monsters but I am a big fan of getting assets that I own. Kelya is a bit more expensive than the rest of Chaos Legion summoners but that is just because she is so good. Tarsa is surprisingly cheap but that may be due to a problem that Fire splinter has. Now a lot of cards from Fire Splinter are ranged so you are not getting the full benefit of Tarsa. On the other side, it is best to get Tarsa now when it's cheap, and then in the next expansion just fill your blanks in the melee deck. I would prefer Obsidian over Thaddius even though he is more expensive. It seems to me that Death Splinter really shines in the Gold league and in low to mid mana matches. Once again Quix is an amazing summoner to include all those great Dragon cards and in Silver league, I would prefer him over Drake. Legendary summoners like Rathe, Possibilus, Immortalis, and others are better in the Silver league than in Bronze due to higher mana caps.

There is not much difference between the Gold and Silver leagues in terms of which summoners are the best but we should mention a few things. Quix the Devious is one of the best summoners that you could have. Yes, he is a bit more expensive than maybe Tarsa, Thaddius, or Sloan but it is really good and it can counter many decks because of his -1 to Range and -1 to Speed. Another summoner that shines in the Gold league is Thaddius Brood. In combination with Cursed Windeku, all those debuffs and Posion Death Splinter compete quite well in the Gold league. General Sloan is really cheap and you can build quite a decent Life deck if you use only him. Speed will be your disadvantage so you will have to think about ways how not to die before your heavy-hitting monsters get their turn.

Oh well, what to say. It costs a fortune to play in Diamond and Champion leagues but well, the rewards are amazing. In the highest tiers, we have only one new addition in comparison to the Gold league and that is Lux Vega. Now Lux Vega gives you flexibility, especially with splinters that do not have as strong summoners such as Life and Death. You will notice that the price of Lux Vega is 850 USD and she is still this high on the list. That means she is really worth the money. Most people can't afford such a card but try to rent it whenever you can, of course for a reasonable amount of DEC.

Summary

So that is it, best summoners per League and the price that you need to pay to buy one of those bad boys/girls :) If you take a closer look at tables you will see that Kelya is always in the top 3. And that is not by accident, she is one of the best summoners in the game and surely one of the best summoners in terms of value for money. What surprises me is that Tarsa is that cheap but really high on the list in every league. I am a bit disappointed with Obsidian as it starts really hard and then falls off as we go through the leagues. The bottom line is - you can't go wrong with Chaos Legion summoners. They are way better than Untamed ones with a few exceptions like Yodin and Kitty, and those are not on this list as they just cost too much and you can spend that kind of money elsewhere.
