Cheap, competitive & versatile Silver league Water splinter deck

With Chaos Legion out for a few weeks now I am starting to build my future decks. I already covered the building of the Life splinter decks and Earth splinter decks and Death splinter deck in my last articles. In this article, we will go through the Water splinter deck building, one of the best decks to build in the new Chaos Legion expansion. We will focus on building this deck with as little money as possible.

So let's get started:

Same as in previous articles, I will focus on affordable cards. I will not build a deck using expensive cards like Phantom of the Abyss, Deepswimmer, or anything similar. Yes, those cards are amazing but I am on a limited budget(so is most of you) and I prefer to spend my money in such a way that will enable me to play competitively in the highest league possible. For now, that is Silver I, though I might level up Death splinter for the Gold league as you can get there very cheaply.

And remember:

I am planning to build a Silver deck and my goal is to be competitive in the Silver league. So I will be looking at maxed-out cards for the Silver league. Those cards may not be good for the Bronze league or leagues above Silver.

Water team

The best thing about the Water team is the new summoner Kyla Frendul. I would say that this is one of the best summoners in the new Chaos Legion expansion, of course alongside with Tarsa and Obsidian. Additional speed is just amazing as it elevates Water splinter cards above all others in terms of speed. You can get a full Water team for a little bit under 300 USD. That is not a bad price considering the versatility that you will get from this team. And yes, over 100 USD will be spent only on the summoner.

Now we are talking about cards like Djinn Oshannus and Serpent of Eld with 6 speed in the Silver league. I found that there are a lot of cards that will have a hard time hitting those cards, even with magic attacks, especially Life splinter. On top of that, Kelya Frendul provides additional armor, so even if you hit an enemy monster your attack will go to waste. That is why there is not a lot of monsters with Piercing ability.

Tanks

Water is full with amazing tanks and it is hard to pick just a few that should be used. Chaos Legion expansion helped us with that as it gave us an amazing tank in Diemonshark. On level 4 Diemonshark is a real beast. Three melee attack with Trample and Enrage abilities are really scary. When you add big health, armor and speed to that you will get an outstanding tank.

If you will play Water splinter this card is a must-have for your deck. At this moment it goes for 0.53 USD per BCX, and that is cheap for rare monster. I predict that this price will go further down once general sale hits the market. Another tank that I am planing to use is Cruel Sethropod. With him we will get pure stats without abilities, and he is the perfect tank for Small league ruleset. At this time he goes for only 0.07 USD which is extremely cheap for this guy. Wave Brood is ranged card but it is actually a proper tank. You can play him as main tank or you can put him in the last spot. That will split the damage between him and the main tanks. Both of your tanks should survive a bit longer that way. This opens a lot of strategies for Water splinter so this is something to think about. If nothing, you will have proper tank in No melee ruleset.

At the end I will mention my favourite Water splinter tank, Serpent of Eld. With 5 speed nad Dodge ability this guys is a real beast. Only obstacle is his price of 3.4 USD per BCX. If you do have some extra money I do recommend this card. A real beast!

Damage Dealers

There are some very interesting cards in the Water splinter but Giant Squid is one of the most interesting ones. I don't understand why the price of this cards is falling, but with new Water summoner this is one of the best cards you can get. All water monsters have increased speed because of the new summoners, and with Blind ability you will enhance this even more.

Blind ability will give you 15% additional chance to evade enemy ranged or melee attacks. And this is huge! If you didn't already, go there and buy yourself a level 4 Giant Squid! Other choices are pretty simple. Flying Squid is great offtank and second position monster with high attacks and speed. Deeplurker is just amazing. This card does have it all, speed, attack and health. A must-have for you deck, and it costs only 0.30 USD per BCX. When general sale hits the market I hope that I could get this one under 0.15 USD per BCX. Kulu Swimhunter is nothing special, but 2 ranged damage, nice speed and good health is rally not bad. This card is very cheap so I recommend you get this one as well. It is good to have some choices, and since you can get one BCX for only 0.05 USD I don't see a reason why you wouldn't.

Nerissa Tridawn is an optional card. If nothing you should take at least one copy because of her big damage. You can use this card in high mana matches. After all, it is cheaper then Poseidon.

From other expansions I would go for some additional cards. Djinn Oshannus is a must have card. You should get level 2 and it will cost you less then 20 USD. This is insace as Djinn Oshannus is core card for Water splinter. Get this card while you can. It won't be this cheap forever. Axemaster is another card that could be useful. I don't want to give 90 USD for level 3 so that's why I will go with just basic card for 9 USD. Venari Wavesmith is just too good and too cheap to pass. I know that we are not playing Water magic anymore but Protect ability is still amazing. I recommend getting level 4 for that extra magic damage. This is still a very good card that can provide additional defense to your backline. And the last damage dealer is Pelacor Bandit, amazing reward card that is clearly undervalued. Get as many copies while you still can. This card is perfect for the last spot in your team due to high speed and Flying ability. A lot of enemy attacks will miss his. I am confident in that. From the Untamed edition, Azmare Harpoonist could be a good addition to your team. At the moment this card is cheap and level 1 can't hurt. It will give you more options in some rulesets.

Utility

Utility cards are really interesting in the Water splinter. We have some nice heals, repairs and so on. Angelic Mandarin is one of those interesting cards. His Triage ability works great with last spot Wave Brood tank. This way, Wave Brood can survive even longer and it can give your monster in the first spot more time to deal some heavy damage.

Merdaali Guardian is our new healer for our tanks. We should level her up to level 4 so she can tank a bit more Snipe damage. This card gets even better in the Gold league with Repair ability. Kelp Initiate is a card that I mentioned quite a few times in my previous articles. It is a great card for the second spot, especially with the new summoner that will provide additional protection and speed for Kelp Initiate. Level 1 will be enough as we don't want to waste our money.

Same as with any other splinter, we need our zero mana cost card. Torrent Fiend is amazing card and I think that level one is needed. Don't underestimate importance of this card. Just remember how much defeats Furious Chicken has prevented. And in the end, a legendary River Hellondale. If you will buy this card, then you need level 2. Ressurect is strong in combination with Diemonshark, but real power will come from the Inspire ability, especially in those high mana matches.

Neutrals

From Neutral cards my top pick is Scavo Hireling. And yes, GOLD FOIL Scavo Hireling. With summoner that provides one armor to every monster in your team, Scavo Hireling will be viable in almost every game in which you play Water splinter. Remember, playing a gold foil card will give you additional 10% DEC when you win. This feels like an amazing investment that will pay itself in no time.I already bought mine, and I am planing to buy more!

Other neutral cards that I would recommend if you already didn't bought them are level 5 Gargoya Lion because of Flying and Void ability and level 3 Uraeus because it will work very good with Pelacor Bandit.

Summary

For only 308 USD we can get a full Water team at this time. I would say that this price would go down a bit once the general sale hits the market. Most of our money will be spent on Kelya Frendul but we need to spend that money. For 308 USD, we will get 9265 CP. Surely there are better USD/CP opportunities but I was focusing on the cheapest deck that could be viable. I feel that this deck is very versatile and it can be played in many ways and in many rulesets. If you have better ideas please let me know down in the comment.
