Land Ahoy! You are not prepared!

Today we are talking about Land. Why? because I am preparing myself to buy a few plots of Land so I am doing my research - as every investor should. At first I was not really excited - I knew generally what Land is and what to expect but after I went through official documentation I baceme even more bullish on land. What I already knew but I didn't gave enough thought in it?

Staking cards - With the Land Phase 1.5. players will be introduced with the concept of "staking" cards and other NFTs. We were always talking about workers and whole staking concept simply did not get into my head. But at the point when you use term "staking" you realize how big this Land expansion really is.

At this time a lot of people are using BOTs in order to extract value from Splinterlands, including me. I use XBOT because I don't have time to play 20-40 games per day. You need to live your life as well. All this could change with Land expansion because it will allow you to extract money without playing the game. So when you don't have enough time to play the game you can just stake your cards on land and get some returns that way. That means you don't have to pay various bots so you could get some more money with your assets. You can just use Land to do the job!

Cards that you assign to the land can construct buildings and produce resources. Those cards has to be locked or soulbound and that means you can't delegate, rent or sell them until cards are unstaked from their land plot. It will take 3 days to unstake cards from a land plot. Power Sources - another thing I didn't know

One Power Source will be needed for each plot where cards are staked (workers are assigned). Power Sources will be available to be purchased by burning 5000 DEC or DEC-B tokens.

If you are buying land now you may consider buying land with "Building in a Box" as Power Source will be included there. If you have Runi card - runi core can act as a Power Source so the plot where you have Runi working for you won't need Power Source. If you buy Power Source then you will have space for 6 workers instead of 5. You can read more about Power Sources here:

Staking DEC

Power Source can be thought of as a type of generators, and like all generators it need fuel in order to function - or better to say DEC. That DEC won't be burned but it has to be available for Power Source, or better to say it needs to be staked.

Starter Packeges - Building in a Box
This is something you have to consider when buying a land. There are plots of land with included Building in a Box which allows the purchaser to begin construction of a level 1 building without having to pay and DEC or other resources.

Without the Building in a Box package, players will need to wait until enough Wood, Stone, and other resources are harvested and possibly refined - which will be quite slow on plots without any buildings - and those resources will be very expensive to purchase on the markets if they are even available at all.

It may be a good strategic move to buy land plots with included Building in a Box so you can start producing resources fast and you can sell those resources on the market for the premium amount as there won't be a lot of resources and everyone would need some.

How much it cost to setup your productive land

Now when we covered the basics let's see how much it would cost to own one 100% productive common land plot.

Land plot

There are a few different options when buying a land plot. There are different rarities of plots and plots can be magical or occupied. We will go with an example of cheapest common plot with Building in a Box included because I think that initially higher price will go a long way with Land 2.0 phase and we want to be smart and provide ourselves with a head start.

At the time of writing this article cheapest land with a Building in a Box is priced at 53 USD. We don't have to buy Power Source since we got that with our just bought plot. But, we need fuel in form of DEC which is 10 000 DEC per worker. Out plot will have 5 max-level workers so that means 50 000 Staked DEC.

• 1x Common Land Plot = 53 USD
• 5x 10 000 DEC = 43.5 USD

In the end we do need workers to work on our land. For that we can use Land PP calculator provided by Peakmonsters: https://peakmonsters.com/land/calc

So here is the list of max-level cards by different rarities. We can see that regular cards are not making a lot of PP. So my conclusion is, I want GF cards. I wont even include Legendary GF cards as I don't have enough money to support that but if you can do that math on the link above.

*Calculations are made with cheapest cards at the market at the time of writing this article:

• Common GF = GF Gargoya Lion 14.07 * 5 = 70.35 USD
• Rare GF = GF Venari Spellsmith 38.17 * 5 = 190.85 USD
• Epic GF = GF Uraues 87 USD * 5 = 435 USD

• 5 * Common GF = 11000 PP per hour
• 5 * Rare GF = 22000 PP per hour
• 5 * Epic GF = 33000 PP per hour

To put that into the context - Natural Common land need 1.50 million PP to be cleared. If you are using Common cards it will take 136 hours to clear Common land and 150 hours to clear Rare land.

So I had to be realistic and consider buying Common GF cards to stake on my Land. I could buy 5x Rare GF cards that would help me clear my 5 plots of land that I plan to buy, but the base cost will be calculated with Common GF cards.

• 1x Common Land Plot = 53 USD
• 5x 10 000 DEC = 43.5 USD
• Common GF Cards = 70.35 USD

Total per Common Plot = 166.85 USD

*It could be worth to invest into Rare land that would give 10% production bonus while that kind of a plot with Building in a Box can be bought for 65 USD at the time of writing this article.

Last thing to consider when buying land is Land Terrain. There are 14 different types of terrain and they are providing different resources.

• Grain(5) - Hills, Lake, Plains, River, Tundra
• Wood(4) - Bog, Forest, Jungle, Swamp
• Stone(3) - Badlands, Canyon, Desert
• Ore(2) - Caldera, Mountain

Summary

Land could be game changer for Splinterlands. A lot of cards could be staked on plots which could lead to higher prices of cards and to higher rental prices. We still have some time until 1.5 and certainly to 2.0 Land but we are getting there. Slowly but steadly. If you are interested in land you should keep close eye on the prices. Make a plan and stick to it and try find good deals out there. I know that I will try to do that.

It is the perfect time to buy some cards and rebuild your deck. Packs are not selling as fast as expected so prices are stable. I expect them to go down even more once we sell more packs. But there is always a possibility of new players joining and buying tons of cards, so be careful.
