Hi, my fellow mages!

Land Phase 1.5 is approaching fast and more and more Splinterlands players are preparing for that huge expansion. We might say that Land is a game on its own where we will use Splinterlands assets. So how will this expansion, or better to say, this new game affect the economy?

According to Splinterlands official documentation there will be 150 000 Lands plots available for players in the game. I don't know what is your point of view on this but from my perspective that is not a lot. It means that there will not be enough land for everyone and people will fight for those plots so they can harvest those valuable resources.

But let's put this number in perspective. 15 million Chaos Legion booster packs were set to be released. 2,525,000 packs were burned because players were angry because there were too many packs left on the market. That means 12,475,000 packs are opened or still in circulation. That means there will be only 62,375,000 BCX from the Chaos Legion expansion.

Basic drop rates are: Commons 70,4% - Rares 24,8% - Epics 4,0% - Legendary 0,8%.

This means that there will be this many max-level cards that could be staked on land:

Common: 43,921,000/400 = 109802.5
Rare: 15,456,500 / 115 = 134404
Epic: 2,495,000 / 46 = 54239
Legendary: 499,000 / 11 = 45363

In total that is 343808 max-level cards.

Now remember, we have 150 000 plots, and on every plot, you can stake 5 cards. That means we need 750000 max level cards to fill every Land Plot 100%. If we stake all Chaos Legion cards on the land we will fill only 46% of available land. So guys, what do you think, do we have enough cards? Should we burn 2.5 million Chaos Legion packs? I think not!

I believe that Land expansion will have a big influence on card prices and even on rental prices. It could happen that card prices skyrocket in a really short time. On the other hand, Rebellion expansion is right around the corner and we might see another 15 million packs on the market. But even with another 15 million packs, we would barely have enough packs to fill all the land plots. And remember we still want to play the game so we still need cards for that part of the game as well.

So we have to ask ourselves: what is better? Should we play the game or stake our cards on land? Well if you take a look at one of my latest articles you can see that with an investment of approx 160 USD, you could potentially get 1.36 USD per day per PLOT of Land. On the other hand, my account which is playing most of the season in Diamond and manages to finish in Champion 3 at the end of the season earns around 20 USD per season. Now the important part is the value of that account which is around 2200 USD at this time even though I invested a lot more.

So if my math is correct and if the predictions in this article are correct then for the 2200 USD that I invested into my playing account I could be earning around 19 USD per DAY. So yes, I could earn more in a day than I earn with my account through the whole season. That is crazy. Of course, that math could work at the time when land is launched but income should go down as time progresses.

Where the sweet spot is another question. Because if you want to earn a lot with land people must play the game, otherwise resources that we will be harvesting won't be worth much. One thing I am sure and that is the price appreciation of cards in the Splinterlands ecosystem.

Another thing is how land is going to affect SPS price now when we have DEC limited to 0.001 USD for a 1 DEC. Why is that important? Because for each of those 150 000 Land plots, we will need 50 000 staked DEC. That means if we fill all plots with cards we will need 7.5 billion DEC staked. That means we will have to burn some SPS to get more DEC to stake it on land. That should bring the price of SPS up, at least in the short run since 60% of SPS still has to be minted.

I think that Land will have enormous effect on the economy in the Splinterlands and I will plan accordingly. 150k of land plots is all that we will get so investing there while price are low could be smart idea. There will be always another set of cards so eventually there will be enough cards for staking.

The problem is that there is just to many investment opportunities in Splinterlands and you can't make servius investment in all of those. You need to pick between cards, SPS, Land, Nodes and even Soulkeep and GLS. Everything looks really promising even though we are in the bear market.

My plan is to go for 5 plots of land where 3 plots will be used for farming Grain. Of course I would like more land - 10 plots is my next big milestone but I will need some time to get there since land is not cheap.

Of course, in the same time it is needed to invest into cards and SPS while also requires money and attention. It is not easy, it is getting more and more expensive but I like it. At the end of a day it may not matter that much in the next bull run where you invested your money. It will matter when you take you money out so you can prepare for another round.
