Splinterlands Battle Challenge - Pirate Captain

avatar

Welcome guys to another "Share your battle" weekly challenge. This time we are playing with Pirate Captain. I often use Pirate Captain when I need to complete Snipe quest as he is one of the cheapest snipers. Of course, he does have a lot of uses which we will cover in this article.

If you are new here, #splinterlands is the amazing #NFT trading card game with #play2earn model. That means you can have a lot of fun AND you can earn money (DEC - Dark Energy Crystals) at the same time. If you don't have an account yet consider registering with my link.

About Pirate Captain

Pirate Captain is a common Water Splinter card that belongs to the Alfa/Beta set. He is great support due to his Inspire ability on higher levels. In the Bronze league, you should use him at level 2 at least, as there is when he gets additional attack damage.

Lore

The Pirates of ΛZMΛRÉ are not to be trusted. Their Captains are among the most cunning (and dangerous) creatures in the Splinterlands. Armed with muskets of secret ΛZMΛRÉan make and prepared for any situation, the Pirate Captains sail the seas looking for treasure.

The Battle
I will not write about what happened in the battle as it is tedious to write something you can watch in under a minute. I will focus more on strategy and why I chose this setup for the battle. I hope that this will help new players with the thinking process when assembling a team.

You can watch the battle on this link

My Strategy

In this game, we had Silenced summoners ruleset so I went for Bortus as he is my level 2 summoner for Water Splinter. That allowed me to play a level 3 Seaweed which should have been my monster that will kill all others which did not happen. Torhillo the Frozen was the tank as I expected some magic damage from my opponent. And boy I was right.

Did it work?

Actually, this was a very close match due to a lot of misses from Torhilo and Seaweed. In the end, I won but after 2 misses I already skipped the game as I thought I lost this one for sure. Djinn Oshanus is really nasty monster to play against and I had a bit of luck that I won this game. My strategy worked but it could go either way.

Would I change anything now?

When looking at this game now I understand that I am missing one important card and that is Creeping Ooze. The slow debuff will greatly help with speed difference and I should use that card. So I would trade Ice Pixie and Azmare Harponoist for Creeping Ooze and Axemaster.

Cards that I used and why?

As you already know, all cards have some positive and negative sides. In the end, it all falls to how you use them and in what combination. Always remember, every card has its role, no matter how small.

Bortus - Due to Silenced summoners ruleset pick of a summoner was not that important. I don't have and 2 mana summoners so I picked one that I have leveled up. That allowed me to play higher level Feasting Seaweed.

Torhilo the Frozen - One of my favorite cards in the Water Splinter. Torhilo is an amazing tank especially against magic damage due to his Void ability.

Void - Reduced damage from Magic attacks. Same effects as a shield but for magic damage.

I love this card because of the high attack, health, and armor. Speed could be a big problem in the upcoming speed/dodge meta that could come with Chaos Legion expansion. But anyways you want to use this tank in magic matches or in reverse speed matches. Great card!

Feasting Seaweed - I love this card. It is so underrated. If we get +1 melee summoner for the Water team I see the price of this card exploding. In this game, I chose this card to clear all smaller or damaged monsters on the board.

Opportunity - Monsters with the Opportunity ability may attack from any position and will target the enemy Monster with the lowest health.

This didn't happen due to low speed on Feasting Seaweed and few misses. Creeping Ooze would help with this and then Feasting Seaweed would provide more value.

Ice Pixie - One of the iconic cards for Water Splinter if you ask me. You probably use this card in every magic game that you play.

Flying - Has an increased chance (25%) of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability.

This card is so good due to its low mana cost, magic attack, and high speed. Due to her Flying ability, sometimes it can even dodge some attacks and that can change the course of the entire battle. In this game, I used her as a filler. She didn't help much due to Void on Djinn Oshanus.

Azmare Harpoonist - I don't use this card that often but I should due to his great damage. Lately, I prefer Axemaster. You get one more damage for one more mana that way.

Snare - When attacking enemies with Flying, removes the Flying ability and cannot miss those currently with flying. Can still miss monsters without flying or monsters that already have been snared.

Azmare Harpoonist was the main damage dealer in this game and I could not win without him. The reason I chose him over Axemaster was the difference in mana cost. I wanted to include Ice Pixie so that's why Harpoonist came into the team.

Pirate Captain - This is the card I often use when I need to complete the Snipe quest. It is cheap and it will get the job done.

Snipe - Targets enemy Monsters with Ranged, Magic, or no attack that are not in the first position.

I really like this card, especially in the lower leagues. I often put this card in the last spot due to his health which means he can tank 1-2 Sneak attacks. That will give time to my magic monsters to deal some damage. On higher levels inspire ability could be very useful.

Cards that would be good with this setup

I think that this was a really good team. As I already mentioned I would use Creeping Ooze and Axemaster in this build. That team should perform better than the one I picked.

Summary

Pirate Captain is an interesting card that I use a lot. I hope that one day I will use him because of his true strengths not only for completing the quests. For that, I should level him up which seems unlikely due to upcoming Chaos Legion changes.
