Zyriel is it worth it?

For the first time ever in Splinterlands, we have a dual Splinter monster and that is Zyriel. Zyriel is an archer who can be played with both Life and Death Splinter so you could say that she is worth two legendary cards. So let's dive deep into stats to see if this card is worth it for its high price.

Zyriel - Deamon and Angel

First of all, I really like this art. It is just amazing and I am really happy that the Splinterlands team is improving on that field. I even like that Lore and Art are going so well with monster's stats. Zyriel does have ranged attack and she holds a bow in her hand and that is a minor detail that is not unnoticed.

Due to her Life Leech ability her base stats are a bit lower than they usually should be. I don't like that really low speed, especially not on level one when she does not have Divine Shield as she is a really easy target for those Opportunity attackers like Deeplurker or Lira the Dark. I don't belive that it would survive very long on level one.

Weapons Training is an interesting ability but there is not much use of that ability unless you play no-attack monster at the last spot in your team. Divine Shield is what makes this card viable. Rust ability is nice for both Life and Death splinters as it has a lot of synergy with other cards in those splinters so you can remove armor quite efficiently.

At the max level, Zyriel has a pretty decent attack and when you add Life Leech on that it can become pretty hard to kill. BUT don't forget that this is a ranged card and all that health, Life Leech and big attack are not worth anything when this card is in the first position.

Nevertheless, Zyriel will be a beast in the Close Combat ruleset and maybe Equalizer. So is it worth that much money so it could be played efficiently just once in every 10-ish games? You decide for yourself!

The Cost

First, let's look at the cost. 1 BCX can be bought for 80 000 DEC which is equal to 67.85 USD at the time of writing this article. For each voucher, you can get a discount of 250 DEC. That means every voucher is priced at 0.21 USD. That is a good thing because you can buy vouchers from the secondary market for 0.1086 USD per voucher. For each BCX of Zyriel, you can use max 160 vouchers. When using 160 vouchers the DEC price goes down by 50%, and the new price is 40 000 DEC + 160 vouchers.

That means 33.98 USD (40k DEC) + 17.38 USD (160 vouchers) = 51.36 USD per BCX

What can you buy for 51 USD on the market?

Well, there are some really nice cards that you could get. New legendary summoners do not look too bad and you can probably get 3 BCX so you will be ready for the Silver league. There are also some older cards that could be way better options than Zyriel like Magnor, Cornealus, Ruler of the Seas, Kron the Undying and so on.

What about max-level?

On the max level, you would need 11 BCX x 51 USD = 561 USD. That is a lot of money. For that amount, you could buy a decent Silver League deck that could easily climb into Gold League. Maybe you could buy 4-8 really decent max-level cards that would further improve your deck.

The best thing for me would be to invest some money into Land and SPS. With the current Land prices (50 USD per common land) you could buy 5 plots and buy 25 max-level GF Common monsters that would work on that land (14.33 USD per max-level GF common monster = 357.5 USD), well almost - you would be 50 USD short, but you can see where I am going with that.

Summary

I think that Zyriel is a really good card but it is priced just a little bit too much. Could 25 USD per BCX be enough for that kind of monster? At that price point, I would seriously consider buying at least a few copies. There are many opportunities to invest in Splinterlands and you must pick your battles. Zyriel is an investment that I passed on but I am sure there will be many more similar opportunities. You should always consider how something will benefit your portfolio. At this moment I think that a big bag of SPS would be a way better choice, at least for me! Or maybe a few key monsters for my alt account. Let me know what have you decided.
