Social Media Challenge : REBELLION || Card Review & Battling againt Rebellion Card (MOXIAN REBEL)

Hi, everyone. Welcome to my post. In the Social Media Challenge, I will discuss anything about SPLINTERLANDS, it can be about cards, abilities, rulesets, battle reviews, End of Season results, or my playing experience.

In this post, I'm going to share again my experience facing opponents who used cards from the REBELLION edition. And this time I managed to win (one of them won quite dramatically)

MOXIAN REBEL

Moxian is one of the few REBELLION edition cards that was announced before the official launch (you can see it here).

In the pre-release stats, Moxian Rebel has 3 abilities, WEAPON TRAINING, PHASE, and CAMOUFLAGE. Where he already had WEAPON TRAINING since level 1, then got PHASE when he was level 4, and got the last ability (CAMOUFLAGE) at the maximum level (8).

However, after the official release of REBELLION, Moxian Rebel received an ability change after being tested on Mavs Server a week before the release. The change was the removal of PHASE from the list of abilities owned by Moxian Rebel. And instead, he got the CAMOUFLAGE ability when he was level 4. Starting at level 7, his ATTACK POWER increases to 2 points.

MY OPINION

It is a little unfortunate if this PHASE ability is removed from the list of abilities owned by Moxian Rebel. Giving additional magic attacks to NO ATTACK monsters, is already a little troublesome, especially for those who don't have VOID abilities when fighting at a low Mana cap. Coupled with the CAMOUFLAGE that he already got at level 4 makes Moxian Rebel difficult to defeat unless he is in the first position or is hit by an attack from the SCATTER SHOT ability.

With abilities like that, Moxian Rebel can already be considered Overpowered when compared to the previous abilities which are still quite normal for monsters with Rare Rarity. If only Moxian Rebel still with the same ability as before the release, at least it can also be defeated by monsters with SNIPE or OPPORTUNITY abilities. And the new CAMOUFLAGE ability he can get when he is level 6 or 7.

Let's put aside my personal opinion about the ability of Moxian Rebel. This time I will share some of my battles with opponents using this card.

1st Battle

image.png

In the first battle, I faced an opponent who used 2 monsters with WEAPON TRAINING abilities (and one of them was Moxian Rebel). Here I used my favorite Strategy that relies on high SPEED, BLIND, and abilities that are specialized to avoid attacks.

This time I rely on Void Dragon to evade attacks from opponents by using FLYING to evade Melee and Ranged Attack and PHASE to evade Magic Attack. And for BLIND ability I used Spirit Hoarder because of the limited amount of Mana available.

image.png

In the first round, Vruz was defeated 2 times by the opponent's monsters (successfully revived by Adelade Brightwing in the first defeat) so Void Dragon received an additional Stats of 2 times (which should have 3 Attack power, but must be reduced by 1 because of the debuff given by Thaddius Brood).

After Void Dragon filled the first position, none of the attacks from the opponent's monsters hit him in this round.

image.png

In the second round, Cursed Windeku and Chaos Agent were defeated. And all the remaining monsters from the opponent's side could not deal damage to Void Dragon (except for the attack from Riftwing).

image.png

In the third round, Moxian Rebel was defeated. However, the Magic attack power he gave to Chaos Animator did not disappear (?) even though the owner of the WEAPON TRAINING ability was defeated.

In this round, the opponent is still unable to deal damage to Void Dragon (especially Ranged monsters)

2nd Battle

image.png

In this second battle, the opponent already has a level 4 Moxian Rebel (which already has the CAMOUFLAGE ability) and focuses its attacks using Magic monsters and Obsidian (adds 1 attack power to all magic monsters).

Meanwhile, I used Astral Entity which has the RESURRECT ability so that it can revive one of my monsters once again. One of the Ruleset this time is TARGET PRACTICE where attacks from other than Melee monsters will be directed to non-melee monsters that are not in the first position. Therefore, I plan to use the MARTYR monster (Venari Marksrat) to become the target of the opponent's monster (which focuses on magic attacks) so that monsters adjacent to Venari Marksrat will receive additional Stats points.

image.png

In the first round, I had already lost 2 of my non-melee monsters (Venari Marksrat and Revealer). But my 2 Melee monsters (Cursed Windeku and Uraeus) received 2 additional stats points. Both of my melee monsters successfully attacked their respective targets (Lichen Beast and Regal Peryton).

Before being defeated, Revealer did some damage to Lurking Puffer.

image.png

Since there were no Non-Melee monsters in my formation, in this second round, all of the opponent's monsters targeted their attacks at Cursed Windeku. Luckily this time, Cursed Windeku managed to survive thanks to my HEAL ability and Doctor Blight who failed to de-buff him (POISON and AFFLICTION).

Also in this round, Uraeus managed to attack and give POISON to Regal Peryton so he lost the next round due to POISON.

image.png

In the third round, Lurking Puffer was defeated by Cursed Windeku and Uraeus defeated Chaos Agent.

Unfortunately in this round Doctor Blight managed to De-buff Cursed Windeku so that he could not heal himself anymore.

image.png

Uraeus defeated Moxian Rebel and Cursed Windeku was defeated by Doctor Blight (despite attacking him first).

The battle between Uraeus and Doctor Blight* was won by Uraeus even though he lost the HEALTH POINT, but his ATTACK POWER and SPEED were superior to Doctor Blight.

Battle Review

If told to choose which battle was the most stressful, I would choose the second battle. In this second battle, apart from Moxian Rebel who already has a higher level, the opponent also brought Doctor Blight who is known to be quite troublesome because he has AFFLICTION and POISON.

The first attack from Uraeus to Regal Peryton also determines my victory this time, even though Regal Peryton has superior SPEED and FLYING ability which is likely to make him avoid Uraeus's attack. If Uraeus's attack failed, then Cursed Windeku would have lost faster because the opponent's magic monster count was higher.

Whereas in the first battle, the selection of monsters made by the opponent is fairly impractical, or could have chosen the wrong monster. Bringing 2 monsters with TRAINING WEAPON abilities is already risky plus the No-attack monsters placed nearby do not have abilities that at least provide slowing (SLOW) or acceleration (SWIFT) so that some of the opponent's attacks can hit Void Dragon.
