What is the real benefit of Alpha/Beta cards for new players?
Hoy estaba revisando el mercado buscando cartas para rentar y comprar y empecé a pensar en algo que me dejo con una idea clavada. para los nuevos... ¿Cuáles son los incentivos reales para apuntar a cartas de ediciones Alfa y Beta? entonces empecé a analizar un poco eso y de esa idea salió esta publicación que les quiero compartir el día de hoy, así que ¡bienvenidos a mi post!
Today I was checking out the market on Peakmonsters looking for cards to rent and buy and I started thinking about something that left me with an idea... for the newcomers... What are the real incentives or benefits to target cards from Alpha and Beta editions? so I started to analyze that a bit and from that idea came this post that I want to share with you today, so welcome to my post!
¿A que me refiero con esto?
Voy a empezar hablando de la máxima diferencia que vi:
- Los precios.
Como puedes ver en la imagen de arriba, la carta Alfa de menor precio vale 3.15$ ahora mismo. El Minotaur Warrior, ¿es una mala carta? no, la verdad creo que ninguna carta es realmente mala, pero pagar 3.15$ por esta carta me parece a mi que es un gasto que ni siquiera una ballena haría, si esta en sus cabales. El Orc Sergeant funciona prácticamente de la misma manera y tiene un valor actual de 0.68$. Ósea, puedes comprarte casi 5 cartas de estas con el valor del Minotaur, y hacen prácticamente lo mismo, y cuyas estadísticas son casi iguales. este ejemplo se repite mucho con muchas cartas de la edición, empezando desde las comunes, como este ejemplo que di aquí, cual es el valor de tener la carta Alfa? el bono de DEC que otorgan por victorias pero siendo sincera y hablando únicamente del Minotaur Warrior, no ganaras muchas partidas usándola en este formato actual.
What do I mean by this?
I'll start by talking about the biggest difference I saw:
- The prices.
As you can see in the image i put above, the lowest priced Alpha edition card is worth $3.15 right now. The Minotaur Warrior, do I think is it a bad card? no, I don't really think any card of the game is really bad at all, but paying 3.15$ for this card seems to me to be an expense that not even a game whale would do at lvl 1, if he is in his right mind. The Orc Sergeant, for example, works in much the same way and has a current value of 0.68$. So, you can buy almost 5 of these cards with the value of the Minotaur, and they do practically the same, and their stats are almost the same. This example is repeated a lot with many cards of the edition, starting from the common ones, like this example I gave here, what is the value of having the Alpha card? the DEC bonus that they give for victories but being honest and speaking only about the Minotaur Warrior, you won't win many games using it in this current format.
Incluso hablando de su versión Beta sigue siendo mas cara que el Sergeant, y hasta hace poco eran incluso peores en este aspecto porque no daban bono de DEC por victorias, pero como sabemos todos esto ya no es así.
Even talking about its Beta version it is still more expensive than Sergeant, and until recently they were even worse in this aspect because they did not give DEC bonus for victories, but as we all know this is no longer the case.
- Poder de Colección.
Otro punto que podría justificar ese precio seria el Poder de colección que otorgan estas cartas, pero revisemos eso, una carta Alfa común otorga 30 puntos de CP, por ejemplo el Minotaur. Si vale 3.15$ eso quiere decir que podrías comprarte 5 BCX del Orc Sergeant que es de edición Untamed, lo que supone 50 puntos de CP, por menos del precio del Minotaur.
Otro ejemplo de miles, puede ser Chaos Knight vs Silvershield Paladín, dos cartas muy similares en estadísticas. El Paladín vale ahora mismo 4.42$ y el Chaos vale apenas 0.07$, es hasta tonto comparar ambos... Con lo que adquieres 1 BCX de Silvershield Paladin te comprarías ¡63 cartas de Chaos Knight! pero... ¿y el CP? pues el Paladín te otorga 120 puntos mientras que las 63 cartas de Chaos Knight (nivel 5, Plata) te otorgarían 315 puntos.
- Y hablando de versiones GF?
Pues creo que el tema precio lo único que hace aquí es acrecentarse mas y mas, sacando diferencias abismales, por ejemplo el Minotaur vale 115$ y su contraparte en estadísticas, el Orc Sergeant vale 17$, es decir que te comprarías 6 Orc's (3000 CP) por el mismo precio de un Minotaur (1500 CP).
- Collection Power.
Another point that could justify that price would be the Collection Power that these cards grant, but let's review that, a common Alpha card grants 30 CP points, for example the Minotaur. If it is worth 3.15$ that means that you could buy 5 BCX of the Orc Sergeant which is Untamed edition, which means 50 CP points, for less than the price of the Minotaur.
Another example of thousands, can be Chaos Knight vs Silvershield Paladin, two very similar cards in stats. The Paladin is currently worth $4.42 and the Chaos is worth just $0.07, it's even silly to compare the two... With what you buy 1 BCX of Silvershield Paladin you would buy 63 cards of Chaos Knight! but.... and CP? Well, the Paladin gives you 120 points while the 63 Chaos Knight cards (level 5, Silver) would give you 315 points.
- And speaking of GF versions?
Well, I think that the only thing that the price issue does here is to increase more and more, making abysmal differences, for example the Minotaur is worth 115$ and its counterpart in statistics, the Orc Sergeant is worth 17$, that is to say that you would buy 6 Orc's (3000 CP) for the same price of a Minotaur (1500 CP).
La diferencia con Chaos Legion.
Quiero enfocarme en este punto porque son para mi las dos caras de una moneda, por un lado la mejor forma de entrar (hablando en lo económico) y por el otro, la peor. Y es que, volviendo con el Minotaur... 30 CP/3.15$ mientras que la mas económica de Chaos Legion, Carrion Shade otorga 5CP/0.04$.
Puedes comprar 78 BCX (390) de Carrion Shade por el precio de 1 BCX de Minotaur Warrior (30 CP), 360 puntos mas de diferencia por el mismo precio. Y si hubiese una diferencia real en el juego mas allá del bono de DEC seria otra historia pero nada mas lejos de la realidad, las cartas de Chaos Legion son de las mas fuertes del juego. No quiero decir con todo esto que Alfa/Beta sea una mala edición, todo lo contrario. Lo que quiero decir es que el mejor punto de entrada siendo nuevo, ahora mismo es Chaos Legion y eso lo dejan muy claro los números. Llevar ese Minotaur a nivel máximo te costara mas de 1200$ mientras que ahora mismo, maxear a Carrion Shade te vale menos de 20$, con lo que maxeas 1 carta común Alfa puedes maxear 60 cartas de Chaos Legion.
- ¿Que estas nunca alcanzaran el precio de las Alfa?
Claro, yo estoy 100% segura de eso, así como también estoy segura que cuando la edición de Chaos Legion se acabe, esas cartas también se volverán escasas y por ende, mas valiosas, lo que sucedió en el pasado con la edición Alfa y Beta. Repito, no me parece una edición mala, si no que creo que siendo nuevo y mas si tienes un presupuesto bajo, debes mirar hacia otro lado y seguramente te ira mejor económicamente hablando.
The difference with Chaos Legion.
I want to focus on this point because for me they are two sides of the same coin, on the one hand the best way to enter (economically speaking) and on the other hand, the worst. And the fact is that, going back to the Minotaur... 30 CP/3.15$ while the cheapest of Chaos Legion, Carrion Shade grants 5CP/0.04$.
Think about it, you can buy 78 BCX (390 CP) of Carrion Shade for the price of 1 BCX of Minotaur Warrior (30 CP), 360 points more difference for the same price. And if there was a real difference in the game beyond the DEC bonus it would be another story but nothing further from the truth, Chaos Legion cards are among the strongest in the game. I don't mean to say with all this that Alpha/Beta is a bad edition, on the contrary. What I mean is that the best entry point for new players right now is Chaos Legion, and the numbers make that very clear. Taking that Minotaur to max level will cost you more than 1200$ while right now, maxing Carrion Shade will cost you less than 20$, with what you max 1 common Alpha card you can max 60 Chaos Legion cards.
- That these will never reach the price of the Alpha?
Sure, I am 100% sure of that, just as I am also sure that when the Chaos Legion edition runs out, those cards will also become scarce and therefore, more valuable, what happened in the past with the Alpha and Beta edition. I repeat, I do not think it is a bad edition, but I think that being new and more if you have a low budget, you should look elsewhere and surely you will be better off economically speaking.
Entonces son útiles?
Viéndolo desde un punto de vista subjetivo, estas cartas no tienen una utilidad real para nuevos jugadores al menos que el dinero no sea ningún problema para armarse estos mazos que son, por lejos los mas caros del juego. Todo esto muy entendible claro, pues son las primeras ediciones del juego y por eso son las mas raras y escasas, de ahí su alto precio. Rentarlas siempre será muchísimo mas económico pero hablando de forma directa creo que ya hace algo de tiempo que el formato Wild quedo fuera del alcance para los jugadores nuevos promedio. Aunque claro, siempre se puede ir avanzando poco a poco con una que otra carta, porque hay muchas cartas Alpha y Beta que son muy fuertes.
Claro queda que las opiniones son personales y cada quien puede tener la suya propia, por eso te invito a que la dejes en los comentarios y hagamos un debate sano al respecto. ¿Que piensas tu de las cartas Alfa/Beta en relaciona a los nuevos jugadores o jugadores con presupuesto bajo?
So are they useful?
Looking all of it from a subjective point of view, these Alpha/Beta edition cards have no real utility or impact for new players unless money is no problem to build these decks, which are by far the most expensive in the game. All this is very understandable, of course, as these are the first editions of the game and therefore are the rarest and scarcest, hence their high price. Renting them will always be much cheaper and accessible to all, but speaking directly, I think that the Wild format has been out of reach for the average new player for some time now. Although of course, you can always advance little by little with one or another card, because there are many Alpha and Beta cards that are very strong.

Para mi, el unico atractivo que tienen es alquilarlas en el final de temporada para subir CP.
En mi opinión, no sirven ni de inversión para alquilarlas en estos momentos, solo si quieres tener una colección completa de cada set podrías comprarla si eres nuevo jugador
