Battle Challenge: Goblin Psychic

Splinterlands Goblic Psychic Battle challenge.png

This is my first post participating in Splinterlands weekly challenge, and it feels great to have a new side quest to look forward to. Maybe it’s a good thing to have more than one objective on top of simply clearing daily quests.

And moving the spotlight to our main character of the day:

Goblin Psychic

You have seen him. You have used him. He is part of the starter team we get as fledglings dipping our toes for the first time into the vast ocean called Splinterlands.

He is the huge 6 mana cost card that is indispensable in every Novice/Bronze green deck, healing a great deal and dealing a ton of damage on the side.

When paired with the summoner Obsidian and the monster Unicorn Mustang, he is the foundation that holds the entire deck up.

Battle breakdown

This was a rather unique match at Silver I level. The rulesets given are:

  1. Fog of War: No sneak, no snipe
  2. Melee Mayhem: Melee attacks from any position
  3. 25 Mana cap
  4. All splinters available

Under normal circumstances, I would immediately bring out my level 4 Kelya with my team of levelled up monsters, bringing in as much melee firepower as I could to dominate the battlefield.

Yet 2 things that crossed my mind as I was planning what to do.

An eye for an idea

For some reason, my opponent is a chad that is battling in Silver I with only level 1 cards. That means I should be able to compete with only level 1 cards as well and still pull off a win.

If I want to force my Goblin Psychic (also level 1), this is the time to do it.

And with no sneak and snipe, there is a chance my healers will be able to survive as intended.

Hmm… interesting…

Gunning for the top prize

Working with the above assumptions, I decided to roll with it and create the best deck that I can produce right now.

  1. Mylor Crowling: He is chosen to counter all melee monsters that are bound to attack my first position due to Melee Mayhem. (This is my first time using him, but that’s another story for another time)

  2. Goblin Psychic and Wood Nymph: The infamous double heal that carried me to Silver III with only level 1 decks. Putting them in positions 3 and 4 is an extra precaution against an unlikely blast build. Plus, there is nowhere else better to put the core supports of the team.

  3. Unicorn Mustang: Main carry, counters magic, and gets +3 hp per heal. My opponent’s melee monsters will all land on it and the Thorns from Mylor will take them out.

  4. Fill up the empty space with random but beneficial things.

Battle Result

You can see from the replay that I was pretty lucky that things turned out the way I assumed they would. We were both using only level 1 cards, and there were no crazy Yodins, Sacrred Llamas, or Ruler of the Seas.

As a matter of fact, my opponent only used started cards…

Bot heaven

My guilt for decimating my opponent without giving him a chance melted away when I saw his name.

There is a 99.9999% chance that it’s a bot.

If it won, the bot will probably earn 0.05DEC or something ridiculous.

I will take down every bot I encounter with zeal; Bring on the Yodins, levelled up Chickens, and max Gold foils at Silver level. Come get a piece of me!
