Bug in Splinterlands live tournament - No alert to start match

20th Mar 2022.

Live tournaments are exhilarating.

The gameplay may be the same as our usual Ranked battles, but it is somehow extraordinary in tournaments.

My heart starts racing, my mind overloads, and mom’s spaghetti threatens to appear.

Only a couple of minutes to scout my opponent’s last 5 battles. It’s a race against the clock to anticipate my opponent’s move and plan accordingly.

The waiting for the next round to start.

The waiting…

The faithful tournament

It was a quick start to the tournament.

Like clockwork, once the countdown in the Arena ended, the tournament began immediately.

Since it was best of 1, the qualifier round ended pretty quickly.

Experience taught me that this may take a while, so I kept my tab open in the tournament and waited.

And waited.

5 minutes passed. 10 minutes passed.

I started to feel worried.

Out of desperation, I hit F5 to refresh the Splinterlands tab.

The horror of missing live match

To my great dismay, I had already forfeited the 1st battle.

Only 30 seconds left to accept the next one.

I quickly hit the “Battle” button and joined the fray. But my mind was in a mess. Why did this happen? Why didn’t I notice that the round began?

I was furious at myself for letting this happen. I had high hopes for this tournament and wanted to give everything I’ve got.

YGG SPL Weekend Challenge

A week ago, on 13th Mar 2022, something similar happened in a Twitch live stream.

It was the finals of the YGG live tournament. Everyone was excited for it to begin.

10 minutes passed. 20 minutes passed.

The hosts were finding it challenging to maintain the hype. And out of nowhere, the 1st result came in.

The finalist who forfeited the match was in Twitch’s live chat.

From his point of view, he didn’t receive an alert for the battle and was patiently waiting the whole time.

Fortunately, the YGG hosts were gracious and offered the top prize to both finalists despite the technical issue in Splinterlands.

Reflection and proofs

To be fair, my opponent was strong and devastated me in the only battle we fought. But a part of me feels indignant that I wasn’t given a fair shot at reaching the finals.

Here's a breakdown of proof of what happened. Hopefully the Splinterlands team would be able to figure out what is happening and resolve it.
