BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! - BACK TO BASICS....

In my continued effort to bring you low quality, repetitive, cyclical, drivel on a weekly basis, in a change from the precious metals related rhetoric i usually bang on about, i now offer to you my loyal followers, a bang average #splinterlands blog.

Without much thought, or deep contemplation, ill be sharing with you few brave souls that have taken the time to read this post, my weekly BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge!. The "share your battle" challange has ended, where the @splinterlands team asked you to share a battle with a specific monster, and now its more about a specific ruleset. This new weekly challenge definitely has its upside, as it allows a wider audience to take part, even when their battle decks are limited.

This week the team over at #splinterlands has asked us to share a battle with the ruleset "BACK TO BASICS". As the name suggests, all monsters taking part in the battle loose all respective additional abilities, apart from their basic attacks.....

This leaves most of the "melee" monsters useless, except for any in the primary, tank slot. Opportunity, sneak, etc all gone. This leaves most people to choose between magic and ranged attacks.

After having played some nearly 20 battles, i finally got to a battle where the ruleset include "back to basics". In addition to B2B, the battle also included "No magic" attacks and "Thorns".

If truth be told, when it comes to the ruleset B2B, my go to summoner would be Alric Stormbringer as his +1 magic ability is great because magic attacks can be used from any position.

Unfortunately for me, neither Water nor Dragon (Delwyn Dragonscale) summoners were available, which left me guessing as to what would be the best combination for these combined rulesets.

Heres my thought process hear me out amd tell me youd do the same?? With no magic and thorns, melee monsters are out of the question. This lead me to believe my opponent would also choose monsters with the range attack. My Death splinter summoner, Contessa L'Ament, would then in theory give me a slight edge by reducing my opponents range attacks by -1.

Using all mana points available and stacking my tank with high health monster with no attack to avoid thorns. Heres the team i went with:

Admittedly, it looks an odd set up, but there is method in my madness. As i said, stacking the tank position with a neutral monster with no attack, meant the only damage it would take would be from ranged attacks. Adding my Haunted spirit as a reserve tank in the second position is technically a waste u till it is needed, thanks to the B2B ruleset, but that was to serve me well during the battle.

The battle starts and it looks like my choices were going to be completely wrong, but as thr battle progress the tide slowly turns in my favour.

I was right to have heavily stacked my tank position, and the negative effect of Contessa was the reason i inevitably won out in the end.

So whats your thouggts on this set up with this speciset of battle rules? Couldni have picked a better team or even a better summoner?
