Making the Best Out of Incomplete Data From Peakmonster’s Auto-Rental System

(Edited)

Peakmonsters recently launched an auto-rental system that makes renting easier for everyone involved. However, there are a few things to keep in mind.
The data presented to us in the bid window is flawed due to a few shortcomings:

  1. The user can alter their bid after completion thus skewing the CP/DEC price.
  2. The user can cancel their bid after completion thus removing it from the recently filled list altogether.
  3. The feed can be delayed by as much as 30 seconds.

Let's have a look at what it looks like right now:

From here, it gives the illusion that the best rate you can get is 80 CP/DEC. This is rather misleading because: The system could have a high amount of traffic. Two: people might've cancelled bids already when they've gotten a better price.

Now, if we change the filters a bit to 17k:

We can see a drastic improvement in the CP/DEC rate that people paid. However, going with a lower bid carries a risk: a partial fill. With how strict CP requirements are for leagues, having some is worse than having none at all.

This is still the 17k window, but I have moused over one of the active bids. It has been filled by about 66%. Since it's only third on the list, the person still has a good shot for getting the bid entirely filled.

This is a similar image however, I navigated to the second page displaying 17k+ There is someone else with a similar situation. However, with so many in front of this one, and a higher CP/DEC compared to the previous ones willing to bid 500, the chances of a partial fill remaining as a partial fill is much higher.

Every time you enter a bid, you need to be prepared to receive partial fills which can lead to losing huge amount of DEC because the next league is not unlocked with insufficient CP.

From the recently filled tab it seems like owners can charge really high for cards. As you can see the huge disparity in the amount that people have bid. This is not entirely correct because of how the system works. The system prioritizes new cards on the market over old ones. So, if you were to list a high price it might just go to waste because the system passed over that specific card. Changing the price on the card will not give that card priority consideration either, it has to be removed and relisted for a chance at priority consideration.

The system makes things easier, but the user still needs to keep an eye on their bid to avoid any unwanted surprises.

An additional thing to keep in mind: when servers are experiencing high traffic, it is possible to end up with multiple bids that are active. It is best to give the server a few minutes before submitting another CP bid after thinking the first one did not go through.
