Drawing Lorkus (My Favorite Archon)

Hello everyone in this wonderful community. Let me introduce myself: my name is Albert, my username is @wizardwarrior, and I’m a huge fan of the game Splinterlands. I love the game mechanics and, above all, the art on the cards. I hadn’t had the chance to introduce myself yet—I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather—but I’ve always believed that drawing is the best medicine. It helps me clear my mind and takes me back to when I was a kid, just me and a pencil. Today I decided to pick up my pencils again to draw Lorkus. He’s my favorite Archon in Splinterlands, and I felt like I needed a little of his energy and magic to get through this week.

Step-by-Step Guide to Drawing "Lorkus"

Today I’m sharing my version, based on the original artwork for the card. I don’t have professional-grade colors or expensive markers at home, so I’ll be working exclusively with graphite pencils on a plain sheet of white paper. There’s something very honest about black-and-white drawings: you can’t hide mistakes behind bright colors, but you can really feel the depth of the line.

This is Step 1

I started by using my 2H pencil to make very light, almost invisible strokes. This is always the part that stresses me out the most because the proportions of a character like Lorkus are complicated. His pose is dynamic, with his hands raised, and I spent a lot of time drawing circles and guide lines so he wouldn’t look “stiff.” It looks like a mess right now, but every great drawing starts with a little chaos on the paper.

This is Step 2

At this stage, the character begins to come to life on the page. I refined the shape of his glasses and that iconic mustache. However, you can still see the "ghost lines" where I had to erase the arm several times. It’s frustrating because the paper starts to wear out and get “fuzzy” from all the erasing, but that’s part of the process when you’re out of practice. I really struggled with the perspective of the floating letters; making them look like they’re suspended in the air without looking heavy was a real challenge.

This is Step 3

Now comes the "messy" part. I switched to HB and 2B pencils to add the shading. Since I don't have a professional blending stump, I used my finger to smudge the graphite and create smooth transitions on her robe and skin. This makes the paper look a little smudged and my hands ended up completely gray, but it gives the drawing a much more realistic sense of depth. I had to be careful not to smudge her face, though I think I left a small smudge near her neck.

This is Step 4

Finally, I used a 6B pencil to bring out the deepest blacks. I used it for the inner parts of his coat and to give some "weight" to the magical energy surrounding the cards. I added my signature @wizardwarrior in pencil in the corner to finish it off. I know it’s not perfect and that there are some uneven lines, but I’m happy I was able to finish something today. Drawing Lorkus helped me feel a little more like myself again. I hope you like it!

Have a great day, and join me on this journey of art and gameplay in Splinterlands

Hey Albert! Love that you're channeling Lorkus's energy through your art—there's something really cool about how you connected your love for Splinterlands card design with getting back to basics with graphite pencils. Your point about black-and-white drawings not letting you hide behind color really resonates; that takes genuine skill. Since you're creating visual content around gaming and art, hivepro.ai could be a solid tool for polishing your post captions and descriptions, and you might also enjoy InLeo Threads for sharing quick sketches or WIP updates with the crypto gaming community. What draws you most to Lorkus specifically—is it the character design, the lore, or how he plays in your deck?
