Guide to Splinterlands' Practice Mode: Your Best Tool for Learning and Improving (Part 1)

I'm @wizardwarrior, and today I want to share a comprehensive guide on one of the most important—and often underrated—modes in Splinterlands: Practice Mode. Whether you're new to the game or have been playing for a while but haven't tapped into this mode's full potential, this guide is for you.
And this is for you because, if you're a new player like me, I really think this mode—or tool, since it's not really a game mode per se—is more of a learning tool; it will be very useful for you to learn everything from the basics to the most advanced concepts, because yes, “Campaign Mode” is great for getting started, but even though the tutorial is good, I sometimes find it a bit slow, so the best thing we can do is make the most of “Practice” to finally understand everything and move on to the big leagues.

What is Practice Mode in Splinterlands?

Practice Mode is a game mode designed to let players test out different decks, strategies, or mechanics without risking their cards or resources. Competitive modes, where each battle affects your ranking and rewards, are different, but Practice Mode lets you play without restrictions, make mistakes, and learn from them without affecting your results.

How to Access Practice Mode
- Open the Splinterlands app.
- Go to the main menu.
- Look for the "Ranked" section.
- Select the "Practice" tab.
- Choose the game mode you want to play, the difficulty level (Leagues), and the difficulty level of your opponent.
Once inside, you'll be able to face opponents controlled by the game's AI, which allows you to study their moves and understand their patterns without the pressure of playing against a real player.

Why Is Practice Mode So Important?
Learn about modifiers and effects on cards.
Splinterlands features a highly robust skill system. Each card can have different effects that are triggered based on position, monster type, or battlefield conditions. Therefore, in Practice mode, you can do the following:
- Test each card without fear of losing; in fact, losing is a good thing.
- View in real time How Modifiers/Rules Work.
- Understand the priority rules for abilities and effects (the order in which they are triggered).
- See how modifiers stack up or how they interact with each other. In short, see how synergies play out on the battlefield.
For example, you can practice with cards that have abilities like Snare, Shield, or Thorns to understand exactly when and how they trigger. That’s what helps you grow as a player—understanding how the game system works—and it’s what I’m doing right now.

Master Card Abilities

Each Splinterlands card may have its own unique special abilities. Some of the most common ones are:
- Sneak: Attack the back row.
- Snipe: Attack enemies first who do not have melee attacks or who have no attack.
- Heal: Restore your monster's health.
- Void: Reduces the magic damage dealt by an opponent's card.
- Stun: Prevents the enemy from attacking for one turn.
In Practice mode, you can take your time to learn each skill without feeling rushed. What happens if you combine Sneak with a fast monster? And if your monster is already damaged, how does Heal work? These are questions you can answer while playing in Practice mode.

Explore the Synergies Between Cards
One of the most fun and challenging aspects of Splinterlands is finding synergies between your cards. A synergy occurs when two or more cards work together to achieve an effect greater than the sum of their individual parts.

Examples of Common Synergies:
Bludgeon Hucker + Warwall Juggernaut: Bludgeon has the "Protect" ability, which grants a shield to all cards on our side of the board, and Walwall has "Armored Strike," which increases its attack by the amount of its shield.
Thraghun + Conclave Tracker: The first has the "Return Fire" ability, which reflects damage from ranged attacks; it also has a shield, and this type of attack hits the shield first. The second has the "Repair" ability, which repairs the damaged shield and prevents it from breaking in battle.
In Practice mode, you can try out hundreds of different combinations until you find the ones that best suit your playing style.

Have a great day, and join me on this journey of art and gameplay in Splinterlands
