Why The Goblin Psychic Destroys In Silver

Hello everyone! It's time to talk about one of my most used cards in Bronze and Silver in Splinterlands for this week's "Share Your Battle"! Follow along for the break down of this battle and perhaps the Goblin Psychic will see more wins in your future!

Goblin Psychic Strengths

  • Paired up with Obsidian, the Goblin Psychic has 3 magic damage.
  • Goblin Psychic heals your tank for "1/3 of the max health, rounded up"
  • Earth deck has a great tank with the Unicorn Mustang having void to counter magic, or Mycelic Infantry with the shield to counter melee and ranged. The Goblin Psychic keeps these powerful tanks alive longer.

Goblin Psychic Weaknesses

  • The Goblin Psychic is slow which means it's damage and heal comes late each round. Your tank needs to survive long enough to get a heal off from the Goblin Psychic.
  • Low health which means the Goblin Psychic is very vulnerable to sneak, snipe or opportunity attacks. You must be careful where you place the Goblin Psychic on your team to make sure it doesn't die.

The Setup

Rule Set → image.png

  • Stampede - This rule was irrelevant as in Silver 3 mostly lvl 1 cards are used. The only card most people have with trample is from the water deck with the Deimonshark.
  • 44 mana - This is really high mana for Silver 3 where most players don't have a lot of high mana cards to work with.
  • I picked obsidian because high magic damage is really powerful in bronze and low silver. There was a chance for the opponent to pick Thadius to counter us but luckily they went with General Sloan.

Placing Goblin Psychic In Our Team

  • Since magic is used often in Silver 3, I place Unicorn Mustang in front as our tank. It also has high speed to potentially dodge melee or ranged attacks. The goal is to keep it alive with Goblin Psychic healing it.
  • It's a high mana matchup and since I don't have many cards, I use the Slipspawn taunt in back to keep our Mustang alive alonger and do 3 magic damage, a rented Dr. Blight to potentially stop their healing, Gargoya Devil for range damage.
  • Most people would put the Venari Seedsmith in back of their team to scavenge up as much health as possible. Instead I put the Seedsmith in front of the Goblin Psychic in case it falls to the front of my team. It can act as a late tank if our Goblin Psychic is still alive as by that time the Seedsmith could have 9 health total and be healed for 3 by the Psychic.
  • We place our Goblin Psychic in the middle of our team as it's very vulnerable with low health. We have protected it from dying with the Slipspawn taunt. Even when Slipspawn dies though, it is still protected from snipe and opportunity attacks based on where the Devil and Seedsmith are.

Let the Battle Begin!

  • Both teams have a Taunt to draw all backline damage to them. The nice thing about our taunt is that the Slipspawn can still do damage from the backline while the Shield Bearer cannot as a melee attacker.
  • Unfortunately we picked Unicorn instead of the Infantry tank with the shield as they have no magic damage. As I said earlier though, the Mustang can dodge shots with the 4 speed.
  • Sloan's team has 12 damage going to our taunt while we have 8 magic damage and 4 range damage to their taunt.
  • The battle of the tanks will have 3 damage for our team and 4 damage for theirs with the eagle having reach. However we will also get a heal with the incredible Goblin Psychic!

Round 2... Fight!

  • Their 12 range killed our Slipspawn in round 1.
  • Our damage couldn't kill their Shield Bearer in the backline so we will need one more attack to take him down.
  • We now have 13 damage going to attack our Unicorn Mustang and 3 damage of snipe to hit our Gargoya Devil which luckily has one armor to absorb this.
  • Hopefully we can get a miss on our Unicorn so that it can survive and get a heal from the Goblin Psychic.

Round 3 The Final Countdown!

  • Luckily we got a couple misses... Whew! 😎
  • With those misses our Goblin Psychic healed our unicorn back to 6 health.
  • The rest of the team was able to kill the Shield Bearer and Elven Defender
  • They still have 11 damage towards our frontline and 3 to our Gargoya Devil with snipe.
  • However at this point, once we kill off their Eagle in the frontline, their range monsters will move into first position and no longer be able to attack.

Round 4 GGs

  • Our Unicorn Mustang did go down with their heavy range damage.
  • However we do not have to worry as our Venari Seedsmith now has 8 health and even if Gargoya Devil dies here, the Goblin Psychic will be able to both heal the Seedsmith, and kill off their Pelacor Arbalest.
