Time for the BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge.

To spice up weakly battle challenge splinterlands came up with idea of BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge. BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge will allows players to showcase their strategic skills through their line up in battle field in variety of battle rulesets.

So theme for this week's BATTLE MAGE SECRETS challenge is Close Range ruleset. Close Range ruleset means all ranged monsters are allowed to attack in first position..

How to Play

Since Close Range effectively allows using ranged monsters even in the frontal position so one can use more ranged attack monsters if they like without having to worry about positioning. With Close Range ruleset the ratio of ranged attack monsters in team usually increases.

With Close Range ruleset the chances of heavy ranged attack increases so one can deploy counter strategy by effectively using abilities like Shield, Return Fire, Shield Repair and Headwinds.

Suited summoners in Close Range ruleset are YODIN ZAKU, LIR DEEPSWIMMER, KELYA FRENDUL, WIZARD OF EASTWOOD, CHANSEUS THE GREAT, THE PEAKRIDER, GRANDMASTER RATHE, ILTHAIN, GENERAL SLOAN, TYRUS PALADIUM, MIMOSA NIGHTSHADE, ASTRAL ENTITY, CONTESSA L'AMENT, SELENIA SKY and QUIX THE DEVIOUS.

MY BATTLE WITH ARMOR UP RULESET

This was a 35 mana battle with two battle rules; Close Range and aim True. All splinters were allowed.

MY LINEUP

KELYA FRENDUL

Since Close Range ruleset was in play and battle mana was medium so went on to play with KELYA FRENDUL. Besides water splinter offers excellent tanks especially for Close Range ruleset.

WAVE BROOD

Up front I went with WAVE BROOD as a tank. WAVE BROOD's abilities like Taunt, Void, Close Range and Return Fire make it a perfect tank for medium mana situations.

KELP INITIATE

On one down I used the low mana Cleanse option KELP INITIATE to support my tank. Maxing out KELP INITIATE is on my bucket list as this guy is too good to miss out.

DEEPLURKER

Next I used one of my favorite Opportunity monster DEEPLURKER. DEEPLURKER's Poison ability really makes this guy an effective Opportunity monster, not to mention Demoralize ability at maxed level.

MERDAALI GUARDIAN

Next is the turn of healer, MERDAALI GUARDIAN. Thing I love about this guys is it serves both as healer and shield repairer which is actually quite unique and saves you from using an extra monster with Shield Repair.

SWAMP SPITTER

On the second last position, I used another Shield Repair monster, SWAMP SPITTER. With Close Range in play it is always a good idea to have extra Shield Repair monster in the team. SWAMP SPITTER is my latest love in the series of new reward monsters.

DOCTOR BLIGHT

On the last position, I used one of the my most favorite legendary monster, DOCTOR BLIGHT. Ever since it was introduced I became fan of this guy and now usually is a part and parcel of most of my battle formations.

BATTLE ANALYSIS

The battle went as planned. Enemy used heavy ranged attack and suffered Return Fire from WAVE BROOD. WAVE BROOD's return fire did a considerable damage to enemy ranged attack monster. DEEPLURKER easily handled the rest.
