Hello Splinternerds

Today I am going to discus one of the recently introduced abilities; Martyr. Martyr ability got introduced with the Soulbound reward cards and now one promo card also have it. When the monster with Martyr ability dies it gives adjacent monsters on both sides plus one on all stats.

Most of the time Martyr ability monsters are used as scapegoats to boost the stats of main attack monsters in the team. Multiple Martyr monster can give multiple stat boosts. Even the with Rebirth or Resurrect, multiple Martyr boosts can be achieved.

Martyr Ability Monsters

As of now, there are six monster with Martyr ability... five of which belong to Soulbound Reward edition and one belong to promo edition. Lets have a look at there stats one by one.

Firecaller

EditionSoulbound Reward
Mana Cost5
Elementimage.png Fire
RarityCommon
Typeimage.png Ranged
Abilituesimage.png Martyr image.png Fury image.png Snare

Firecaller can serve as a nice ranged attack monster especially with Zaku. It relatively low health makes it a perfect target for opportunity monsters, giving its Martyr ability high chance of triggering.

Noa The Just

EditionSoulbound Reward
Mana Cost5
Elementimage.png Water
RarityEpic
Typeimage.png No Attack
Abilitues Rust Dodge Backfire Martyr

image.png

Noa The Just is the only Epic with Martyr ability. It is loaded with other handy abilities like Rust, Dodge and Backfire. With heavy speed and complementing abilities it is always difficult to hit it and if you do Martyr is there to welcome you.

Fungus Flinger

EditionSoulbound Reward
Mana Cost3
Elementimage.png Earth
RarityCommon
Typeimage.png Ranged
Abilituesimage.png Martyr image.png Blind image.pngAffliction

Fungus Flinger is yet another common with Martyr ability. Looking at stats one can see that this guy is meant for sacrifice just for the sake of Martyr ability.

Iziar

EditionSoulbound Reward
Mana Cost11
Elementimage.png Life
RarityLegendary
Typeimage.png Magic
Abilituesimage.png Taunt image.png Void image.png Martyr

Iziar is quite peculiar legendary. This guy can take quite a beating especially when magic attack is involved and on the very last it have Martyr ability in the bank.

Venari Marksrat

EditionSoulbound Reward
Mana Cost3
Elementimage.png Neutral
RarityCommon
Typeimage.png Ranged
Abilituesimage.png Martyr image.png Snare image.png Shatter

image.png

Venari Marksrat is my favorite Martyr monster because it belongs to Neutral splinter so does have increased utility. Like many Martyr monster one can judge that this card is meant to be sacraficed.

Vruz

EditionSoulbound Reward
Mana Cost2
Elementimage.png Dragon
RarityCommon
Typeimage.png Melee
Abilituesimage.png Sneak image.png Martyr image.png True Strike

image.png

Vruz is the only promo card with Martyr ability. Although this guy is pretty hard to kill with sneaking as its main purpose. Martyr ability of Vruz is more of an addon.

Promo Battle

In this battle, I used two Martyr monsters; Firecaller and Venari Marksrat. Both of these monster were used to boost my main tank Grum. It was amazing to see Grum getting boosted by Martyr and Bloodlust ability.

Closing Remarks

Looking at Martyr ability monsters it can be seen most of the Martyr ability monsters' serve as scapegoats. So ruleset like Opportunity and Born Again are well suited for the efficient utilization of Martyr ability monsters.
All in all it is fun to see Martyr ability getting triggered and even more fun to do so multiple times in a battle.
