Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets Challenge - Briar Patch / Thorns

Hello everyone, this is my entry to the splinterlands battle mage weekly secrets challenge for this week. I will be describing one of my battles. For this battle, I used my account @yahuzah which is my spl account for all battles.

Battle Ruleset

Ruleset Icon	Description
	Odd ones out: Only monsters with odd mana costs may be used in battles
	Briar patch : All monsters have the thorns ability

The ruleset required for this challenge was the thorns ruleset meaning all melee monsters received a return damage of -2 and some -1 health.

For this battle, I chose the Obsidian summoner. This is because I wanted to avoid a lot of melee attack monsters and use magic and ranged attacks monsters.

Battle Tactics

I decided I would use magic monsters and good ranged monsters. Having the odd ones out ruleset in addition to thorns meant that I wouldn't be able to use some of my favorite magic monsters. For the first position, I selected Grimbardun fighter. Though it was a melee monster and would get affected by thorns, I selected it because it had "shield which reduced the melee and ranged attacks by 50%.

I selected Mycelic Slipspawn in second position. It had the taunt ability meaning all units attacked it if they are able to. I chose it because I didn't want my first monster killed early or the other ones on my team. It had an attack of 2 magic and with the summoner, it had 3 magic damage.

For the third position in my team, I selected Goblin Sorcerer which had the ability to target the last unit on my enemy's team.

For the fourth position, I selected Regal Peryton. Regal Peryton has the flying ability so I chose this because it could evade ranged and melee monsters who did not have the flying ability.

In fifth position, I selected Vampric Blossom who had a speed of 3 and a ranged attack of 2. It also had the oppress ability which did double damage to monsters with no attack or no weapons training.

For the last position on my team, I selected Runemancer Floree which had a magic attack of 2 and a ranged attack of 2. It also had a high speed of 4 and a high health of 13.

Battle Details

Summoner buffs took effect and the battle began. My enemy reduced my ranged attacks and speed by 1. +1 magic was added to my monsters.

Three of my enemy's monsters attacked first all doing damage to my Mycelic Slipspawn. I then attacked my enemy's first monster with my Regal Peryton followed by my last monster reducing its health to 4. My enemy's first monster received the thorns damage first after attacking my first monster.

My second monster killed my enemy's first. At the end of round 1, my first monster also attacked my enemy's new first and received a thorns damage of -1 heatlh.

At the start of round 2, my enemy killed my second monster. My last monster would have killed my enemy's new first monster but missed its ranged attack because my enemy had the flying ability.

However, a ranged attack from my Vampric Blossom killed my enemy's new first monster. My first monster killed my enemy's Venari Markstrat but received a thorns damage of -2 health.

At the start of round 3, my first monster was killed. Attacks from both teams missed and I killed my enemy's Regal Peryton at the end of round 3.

At the start of round 4, my Regal Peryton was killed. My last monster killed my enemy's first monster leaving only the last monster. My second and last monster missed their attacks and my first monster killed my enemy's remaining monster.

In the last round which was round 4, I killed my enemy and won the battle.
