Good night, my dear community!!!

This will be a somewhat short post, I just wanted to share with you my recent illustration for the Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!!!. Just like last week, I looked through older cards for possible inspiration.

That's when I stumbled upon the mighty -=Medusa=- and although I would have preferred to be turned to stone the moment I looked at it. Well, the truth is that it didn't happen and so I decided to take her as inspiration for this opportunity.

As I didn't have the spirit or the time to make a complete illustration, I chose to make a portrait. Although this type of work doesn't allow me to play with perspective or movement, I love the freedom it gives me to experiment with different techniques.

In just a few hours, I managed to create this portrait of Medusa. I wanted to add a touch of difficulty to the work and decided to use textures to make it more interesting and not look so simple. Also, I focused on a more expressive pose to give more life to the portrait.

Medusa

𝕳𝖊𝖗𝖊 𝖎𝖘 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖈𝖆𝖗𝖉 𝖙𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖕𝖎𝖗𝖊𝖉 𝖒𝖊 𝖙𝖔 𝖒𝖆𝖐𝖊 𝖙𝖍𝖎𝖘 𝖕𝖔𝖗𝖙𝖗𝖆𝖎𝖙, 𝕴 𝖑𝖊𝖆𝖛𝖊 𝖞𝖔𝖚 𝖎𝖙𝖘 𝖘𝖒𝖆𝖑𝖑 𝖉𝖊𝖘𝖈𝖗𝖎𝖕𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓::

Every water-breather in ΛZMΛRÉ knows that Gorgons live in their waters. A simple trip to the ocean floor reveals the statues of the unfortunate Merfolk who crossed the path of a Gorgon. Medusa is the only Gorgon to reveal herself to others without turning them to stone. At least they have a choice.

Since what I wanted was to make a portrait of Medusa, I started by making a quick sketch of what I might be looking for.

Then, on a layer on top of everything, I added some color for what would be the base. I already had an idea of the lighting and colors I wanted to use.

More advanced, there was almost no lineart, but you could notice Medusa's figure a little better. I made some slight changes, nothing too serious. Getting to this point was pretty quick, but I still didn't have anything too defined.

The colors I chose were contrasting, but they go well together. I didn't want a lot of lighting, just a little that would come from above.

Although at first the sketch was going one way, I still corrected several details to make it look better. During the whole process, I worked on several things except the snakes, I left that for the end.

Finally, it was time for the snakes. I used some snake skin textures as a base, and on top of that, I detailed a little more and made some of the snake heads.

At the end I finished the snake heads and made some lighting changes to finish with my Medusa portrait, I hope you liked it and see you soon.
