Taking A Look At The Forest

Today we are looking at The Forest by Endnight Games.

Released way back in 2014 I think, it was a mess of a game. You could barely even call it a game.
Glitches and crashes galore. But it was released as an early access game on Steam so I didn't expect much from it.

But over the years I have backed alot of early access games, some good and some absolute hell shows.

But The Forest really blew me away.

It was a pretty fun game with cannibals running around trying to eat me all day long!

As the game developed new areas opened up and more fun crafting options became available. One of the most exciting parts was this huge crater in the centre of the map that had no way to access. Early game days was frustrating as I badly wanted to find out what was down there.

The Story goes that you go down in a Plane crash and not many survive. You then progress on to finding your son and a way to get off the island.
While on the hunt for your son you come across other passengers of the flight in uncomfortable situations that give you an idea of what is to come.

As you go further into the game the mutant cannibals become more and more interesting. From run of the mill cannibals to some big behemoths that will smack you about like a bitch and you can't really do much to stop them except run and dynamite the bitches.

I really enjoyed the exploring but it went up a notch building a base to defend myself especially at night when the big boys came. The more cannibals you kill, the more interesting mutants you meet later on.
Base building allowed you to build some fun traps and high walls to help you live through the nights.
Cutting up bodies gave you bones and skulls which you could turn into ornaments and even torches to make your base look pretty.
I always thought that if they come for me and see loads of skull lights on the way, they might at least be a bit wary.

There is a good selection of weapons and items in game to help you craft new stuff like flaming arrows which are great.

Onto the multiplayer side which was an absolute blast. Though depending on who you play with, they might open the doors to your base on the night attacks!

They have released a 2nd game which again I bought on release with high hopes for it. And yes it is even better!

If you haven't checked it out and you enjoy a building/exploring/horror game then I highly recommend this.
