Today, I'm sharing a strategy around Portal Spinner. I know a lot of people don't like scattershot ability but there are some good use cases for it.

This time, I decided to share a battle that my opponent used scattershot perfectly. Sometimes, you learn more from the opponent in lost battles right?

My thought process

Only water and life are avaliable, so I thought of some cards that they could play....

• Water, Opportunity. They could put cards like Almo cambio and Cornealus and put deeplurker and feasting seaweed. This is something I was most worried about.

• The above point is the biggest reason why I put shieldbearer first. Another thought is that if I use Grandmaster Rathe, spamming magic can be okay even if they have some magic reflect.

• I did think about having scattershot monsters like XAWI did. However, it relies on RNG for some extent. A team like xawi's is weak against water opportunity team.

Why Scattershot is great in fog of war ruleset

Current meta:

• Magic & Archery monsters are the most popular
• Opportunity can be still used
• Reflect (magic reflect, return fire) is very popular to counter magic, archery

It's a good idea to expect magic reflect & return fire first and second position. That's the reason why scattershot is great because scattershot goes around those reflect mosnters and a taunt monster and can hit the weaker monsters directly.

Another great thing about his team is that triage from Djinn Renova can heal portal spinner and Gem meteor if they hit return fire.

More on Portal Spinner

• 5 mana 4 archery is a good mana attack ratio
• 2 armors is nice to have
• Snare can be nice with scattershot in earthquake ruleset so that it steals flying ability from random monsters

Closing thoughts

XAWI's strategy around reflect + scattershot worked extremely well. So next time I would like to try similar team possibly with portal spinner.
At the same time, I also would like to try opportunity monsters as well because it will counter a team like XAWI's.
