Odd ones out 2.png

In the last post, I talked about popular teams in odd ones out ruleset in low mana battles.
https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@yukihyakubai/splinterlands-odd-ones-out-strategy-low-mana-battles

I talked about the 3 points that UeyUey pointed out.

1. Only taunt monster in odd number is Mycelic Slipspawn
2. Use opportunity ability (but expect opportunity on the other side too)
3. Expect sneak

These points stay relavant but monsters you should expect are vastly different in high mana battles than in low mana battles.

I like to watch champion players battles. So I picked some battles as example battles to show some of the most popular monsters in this ruleset.

Let's start with looking at one of the most popular team in high odd ones out battles.

Dragon

52 mana, blast, dragon, earth, death available

I've watched a lot of champion-level battles. I noticed that there are 4 dragon cards that are extremely popular in this ruleset right now.

  1. Carnage Titan (11 mana)
  2. Dragon Jumper (7 mana)
  3. Robo-Dragon knight (11 mana)
  4. Scale Doctor (5 mana)

A little bit less popular but
5.Gold dragon (7 mana)
6.Desert dragon (7 mana)

Especially the first 2, carnage titan and dragon jumper are almost always used if dragon summoner is used.

One thing to mention here is that the only taunt monster in this ruleset, Mycelic slipspawn is used in both teams. It has forcefield which means an attack with 5 or more damage will do only 1 damage. Carnage titan does 4 damage twice, so it is a great counter for that.

Dragon jumper doesn't do much until you kill slipspawn. After that, it becomes a very important card because it kills the weakest card.

Don't forget to expect scale doctor because it has rust, so you can't rely on the armor that you were going to have. It has repair and triage, it makes the team very resiliant.

Also, the spirit of the forest is very popular in earth splinter. If the earth is open in this ruleset, we should think about this card.

Earth

Lama, Prince Rennynn, or Mylor are not very popular in odd ones out high mana battles. I just didn't encounter them very much in high mana battles in the ruleset.

Kitty + Earth is very popular just like the fist battle we looked at but earth only is very rare.

99 mana, blast

You often times see these 3 monsters if they decide to go for earth.

  • Mycelic Slipspawn
  • Spirit of the forest
  • Pelacor Mercenary

Fire

I have two example battles:

58 mana, close range

Popular cards in fire

  1. Lava launcher
  2. Fineas rage
  3. Grum
  4. Living Lava
  5. Elemental Phoenix
  6. Djinn Infirni

*neutral but Sand worm is almost always there with Yodin.

Lava launcher is like almost always there because it gets +1 range damage buffed from Yodin and it can attack from any position.

Sand worm is also a card that is heavily used in this ruleset, especially with Yodin. Sand worm is a good to think about because what happens both sides have sand worm with Yodin? The speed matters a lot because sand worm drops bombs, 7 + 4 blast damage = total of 11 damage!

When we use Yodin, we should always think about speed. This battle, the bottom team attacked first and won because it had slow from goblin shaman.

99 mana Noxious Fumes, Fire, Life, Death available

Elemental Phoenix is here this time. Grum, Fineas rage, lava launcher, sand worm are there again.

They're fighting against life resurrect + sneak team but Yodin wins because of too much damage given.

Life

50 mana, Earthquake

If dragon is available, people like to Kitty over Chanseus or the peak rider but dragon is not available in this match.

Either way, if they use life, you almost always see Silvershield Assassin & Sand worm. Angel of Light is a nice addition there because it has inspire and increasing damage of those 2 sneak mosnters.

The top team wins this matchbecause...

  1. The top team had 2 more resurrect, hydra lived longer to protect other mosnters from the big sneak attacks.
  2. The bottom team didn't have any sneak protector. They had demoralize instead but it didn't make much difference.
  • Take away: Watch out for Silvershield Assassin and Sand worm.

Water

I don't see a whole a lot of water either! Think of the cards that are very good in water...

  • Kraken (12 mana)
  • Rulet of the seas (6 mana)
  • Phantom of the Abyss (10 mana)
  • Djinn Oshannus (8 mana)
  • Diemonshark (8 mana)
  • Wave Brood (8 mana)
  • Deeplurker (6 mana)

Water doesn't look that great in odd ones out ruleset in high mana battles.
It makes sense that water is not very popular.

If it is water only, we might see teams like this:

スクリーンショット 2022-06-02 午前0.30.22.png

  • River Hellondale (7 mana)
  • Nerissa Tridawn (9 mana)
  • Captain's Ghost (7 mana)
  • Poseidon (9 mana)

It's hard to make a unified team here but those monsters are worth expecting if it is just water.

Death

Death is not super popular either but if they use death, there are some monsters to expect.

  • Lord of Darkness
  • Lira the dark
  • Djinn Muirat
  • Silent shavi + Sand worm (sneak)
  • Cthulhu

The tank is going to be Lord of Darkness. Corrupted Pegasus is 6 mana, so won't be here.

Sneak is a popular play again. Definitely watch out for that. Lira the dark is also used often, watch out for opportunity as well.

**Attention: **
If the dragon splinter and death is available, watch out for dragon jumper + Lira the dark opportunity combo. It seems to be very common.

Closing thoughts

It was definitely interesting to see what kind of teams are popular in high mana odd ones out ruleset because I was clearly able to see which splinters are more popular.

From what I can see...

  1. Kitty + Earth
  2. Yodin (balanced but usually with sand worm & lava launcher)
  3. Chanseus Sneak

Those are the top 3 in popularity in my opinion.

If the dragon is available, people tend to use Kitty because the dragon has really good cards in odd mana.

Since this rulest cut the choices into probably half, it's not that hard to guess which cards might be on the other side. I hope you can remember this post if you encounter high mana odd ones out ruleset in the future :)
