Greetings Splinterlands enthusiasts!

We have all been waiting and sweating in our own respective ways regarding the developments of our beloved game and NFT collections. The General Sale is soon upon us and as Phase 2 ends off 2x airdrop legendary monsters have been added to the game!

First a little background information.

In the Past

I have not been posting a lot about Splinterlands but that will change. Some of you know me and that I started with Alpha, even in a tentative way, not too overzealous or spending too much time and money into the game.

I pretty much blogged my way into a few packs of Alpha and Beta. There was a 3-year gap where I was not on the blockchain or on Splinterlands but not before selling 2x cards and getting $900 to buy an i7 laptop for myself!

3 years later, I am still using that laptop. I do not regret selling those cards at that time because, without this laptop, I would not be able to carry on with my blockchain journey!

In any case. I have returned. Joined the SCU group of guilds, discovered a massive amount of new content including the Untamed card set I completely missed.

So when Chaos Legion was announced I determined to get involved in Splinterlands more than I have ever done before!

Scaling up

When Alpha came out I must have bought a handful of packs at $2, before I knew it, Alpha was sold out and the Beta packs came out with their neutral cards and new Reward cards added to the game.

I am not sure how many packs I actually bought. My estimate by looking at my current card's total BCX value would be that I bought around 40x Alpha packs and 60x Beta packs. Reward cards from that time were all earned.

I bought 87 packs off the Splinterlands website for the Airdrops. I got my Dr. Blight and while I could not afford to buy 300 packs to guarantee myself the new airdrops. I hoped that I would stand a chance at that.

Airdrop results

baakjira.png

First up we have Baakjira the awesome grumpy whale super tank.

Unfortunately, none of these were awarded to me.

At level 1 these guys are super handy. A tank even when no melee monsters are allowed. Added to that is Void which is great for any tank - even more so when you can't use a melee tank. Add to that Slow and you have a winner of a card.

Hitting that Claim button and getting nothing was a bit disheartening. Yet I then steeled my heart as I knew that without 300 packs bought, I could not expect any airdrop cards after all.

So I went to the next Claim button without much expectation.

Enter Uriel the Purifier the sword, and book-wielding Life melee tank monster. This guy is Speed 3 and Flying with a great Armor and Health stat to keep him alive. A good thing too as this guy has Recharge so he will only be striking every 2nd turn with 3x damage.

Obviously every other turn, Uriel is reading his book and when interrupted, lashes out in righteous fury on whoever is in the front row.

Out of these two cards, this was definitely the card I wanted more.

I hit that Claim button and...

🔥🎉🎉🎊Joyous Celebration🎊🎉🎉🔥

Not 1, but 2x of this amazing card! I am still overjoyed that this event!
Luck was on my side. This was at least evidence to everyone that you can buy what you CAN, you still have a chance to win those airdrops!

Time permitting, I will buy some more packs from Splinterlands to increase my chances on the other airdrops that are coming out. Also, after this point the only way to buy packs will be by buying on the secondary market.

This may go down and then up I assume. People buying packs for airdrop points on the website and selling out at UNDER $4 so they can buy more packs again creates an opportunity for two groups of people: People with lots of money and people that do not have a lot of money. Either way, you look at it, you can use this event as an opportunity to expand your collection in the game at a cheap rate.

Motivation for the future

New players, harken and hear my tale!

Sometimes I see people in Discord who bemoan their "late entry" into the game and what it will COST to get started and really become competitive in Splinterlands.

I will explain myself a lot more in future posts but let me point something out: a bit more than 3 years ago these packs came out at $2. Right now you cannot even buy a 1x 1 BCX Alpha Common Card for $2...

This is not the end, it is the beginning. The previous editions are called Alpha and Beta as they are the original, vintage edition of the future. Splinterlands is now a massive company with 95 people working in their team, according to the latest AMA, soon they will go over 100 people!

Splinterlands is here to stay and they are just getting started.

One day your Chaos Legion cards you bought from your packs in 2022 will join my Alpha and Beta cards in the Wild format and there will be 2 and more sets. The rarity of your cards will escalate and by that time our 300,000 strong active player base will be 3 million or more!

So get in there!
Push and shove, there is not enough for everyone
Hehe 😁

My only regret is not buying MORE in the past, but I CAN buy more right now. 😉

More Splinterlands posts coming soon!

Cheers for now!

That's some sweet inspiring story of your Splinterlands journey. Am just approximately 2 years playing the game and am hooked.

You're very lucky with the Airdrop, I think I bought 11 packs and didn't get any, I went ahead to buy 3 card of Uriel the Purifier, I will see to Baakjira later 😀

I will be buying 1x Uriel so I can make him level 2.

2 Years! Congrats man, that's great. All you can do is keep on playing and keep on getting those rewards in. I literally blogged my way into these riches lol.

It is actually insane to see the value of my Alpha and Beta cards escalate the way they did!

This is very inspiring. Have you invested in Splinterlands or have you blogged on Hive and re-invested into cards?

Both!

I am an old Steemer. I used my blogging money to buy Alpha and Beta packs.

Now during this presale and SPS phase I did my research and invested into it as well.

But I have also drawn some out again as life expenditures require.

A person should know when to stick to your guns and when to be flexible and re-direct your energy. But never quit!
