Hello everyone, Hive friends!
I do not claim to write a perfect guide, but anyone who, like me, uses JAWS, a screen reader for blind people, can easily enter the world of Splinterlands. Blockchain gaming offers incredible opportunities for earning and entertainment, and with the right tools and some strategies, it is possible to navigate the game ecosystem independently.
🔑 Step 1: Access and the Role of Hive Keychain
To start playing Splinterlands, the very first step involves account creation and login. At the beginning, it is not strictly necessary to install additional tools, as the game allows you to register and log in the classic way. However, my advice for those using a screen reader is to set up Hive Keychain right away.
Why does it make the whole system easier?
This tool securely manages your cryptographic keys on the Hive blockchain. Once installed, it saves you from having to continuously copy and paste long text passwords every time you need to take an action in the game, reducing the risk of typos to zero and speeding up navigation with JAWS.
A quick note: What are these "Keys"?
Unlike traditional websites that use a single password, on Hive and Splinterlands you will have several private "keys" available (such as the Posting Key or the Active Key). Each has a specific task: one is used only for playing and posting, the other for managing your earnings. Hive Keychain stores these keys for you, so you will never risk exposing your most important one (the Master Key) during your gaming sessions.
How to download Hive Keychain
The installation on a computer is very simple and is the method I personally use:
- From Computer (PC or Mac): If you play from a browser (like Google Chrome, Brave, or Firefox), you just need to search for "Hive Keychain" on the Chrome Web Store or your browser's extension catalog. JAWS recognizes the "Add" or "Install" button without any problems. Once the download is complete, the extension will be ready in your browser's toolbar.
(Note: For the record, there is also an official application for smartphones on both Android and iOS, but not having tested it personally in this guide, I will focus exclusively on the computer experience, which I know perfectly).
That's it: Ready for registration
At this point, the technical part concerning the extension is completed. You can temporarily leave it aside: it will stay there in the browser, ready to intervene automatically when necessary.
Now we are finally ready to take the big step. You can connect directly to the official website by clicking on this link: Splinterlands.com. Once the page is open, we will be ready to start the actual registration procedure.
🃏 What is Splinterlands in a few words?
Before registering, let's spend a couple of words on this title. Splinterlands is a strategic collectible card game based on the blockchain. Each card represents a monster or a summoner with unique abilities and stats. The fantastic thing for us who use a screen reader is that it is a tactical, automated "turn-based" game: once the team is deployed on the field based on the text and numbers of the cards, the battle resolves itself. No quick visual reflexes or fast mouse movements are needed, only strategy matters.
🔎 Finding the "Register" button with JAWS
As soon as the Splinterlands page loads in the browser, the interface might seem full of graphic elements, but for us, navigation is very simple. To find the registration command right away without scrolling down the whole page with the down arrow, I recommend using shortcut keys:
- Press the B (Button) key on JAWS to jump directly from button to button.
- Alternatively, open the list of buttons on the page with the combination Insert + F5.
Look for the button that JAWS will read as "Create Account" (or "Sign Up"). Once found, press Enter to open it.
📝 How to enter your registration data
After pressing the button, an overlay window (a pop-up form) will open.
- Practical tip for the screen reader: To jump straight to the first input field and avoid scrolling through the internal graphic elements of the form, you can conveniently press the E (Edit) key. JAWS will instantly take you to the correct text box.
Next, you can move between the various elements using the Tab key. The procedure will ask for very little data:
- Enter Email: In the first editable field (reached with the E key), type your email address.
- Confirm Email: By pressing Tab, you will move to the second field where you will need to type the same email again for confirmation.
- Acceptance of Terms: Continuing with Tab, you will reach the checkbox to accept the terms of service. Simply press the Spacebar to check it.
At this point, one last Tab will take you to the final button to confirm the submission of the registration.
📧 Checking email and choosing your username
Once the form is submitted, the Splinterlands system will send a verification email to the address you just entered.
- Email Verification: Open your email inbox, look for the message sent by Splinterlands, and click on the confirmation link inside. JAWS will easily detect the link within the email text.
- Choosing your Username: After clicking on the verification link, you will be redirected back to the Splinterlands website where you will be asked to choose your username. This name will be very important: it will not only be your game nickname, but it will become your public account name on the Hive blockchain for all intents and purposes. You can use the E key to position yourself on the text field and type the name you prefer.
- The Security Password: Immediately after confirming the name, the system will generate a complex password (your Hive private key). It is vital not to lose it: copy it carefully using JAWS commands and save it in a safe place on your computer (for example, in a protected text file). You will need this password in a few moments to configure the extension we downloaded at the beginning.
🎒 Surprise: You have just created your Hive Wallet!
There is an extraordinary detail that many new players do not know at the beginning: by completing this registration, you have not created a simple game profile, but you have opened a Wallet (digital wallet) on the Hive blockchain for all intents and purposes.
This means two very important things for us navigating with JAWS:
- One account, infinite possibilities: With the exact same username and password you just saved, you can access not only Splinterlands, but also Ecency to write posts (just like this one!), PeakD, or any other platform in the Hive ecosystem.
- Your earnings are safe: The cards you win or buy and the game coins will not be saved on a company's servers, but will be deposited directly into your personal wallet, under your total control.
Note: This is a huge and extremely interesting topic. I don't want to put too much on the table right now, so I promise I will talk about it much better and in depth in my next guide posts!
🎮 Start playing (for free!) and the Spellbook
The best news is that at this point you are officially ready to take the field. You do not have to invest a single cent to start: Splinterlands allows you to play practice matches and start getting familiar with the interface, cards, and first battles completely for free. This is the perfect time to explore the site with JAWS, understand how monster data is read, and start testing your first strategies without any financial pressure.
If you later want to get serious and start earning real money in the form of tokens (SPS) or win tradeable cards, the game offers the opportunity to purchase the "Summoner's Spellbook". This is a one-time pass that costs 10 dollars (conveniently payable with both PayPal and cryptocurrencies) that will grant you access to ranked matches. Finding the purchase banner on the site is very simple using the B key on JAWS, and the entire payment procedure is fully accessible.

Il gaming su blockchain offre incredibili opportunità di guadagno e intrattenimento, e con i giusti strumenti e alcune strategie è possibile navigare nell'ecosistema di gioco in autonomia.
🔑 Passo 1: L'accesso e il ruolo di Hive Keychain
Per iniziare a giocare a Splinterlands, il primissimo passo riguarda la creazione dell'account e l'accesso. All'inizio non è strettamente necessario installare strumenti aggiuntivi, poiché il gioco permette di registrarsi e accedere in modo classico. Tuttavia, il mio consiglio per chi usa uno screen reader è di configurare subito Hive Keychain.
Perché facilita tutto il sistema?
Questo strumento gestisce in sicurezza le tue chiavi crittografiche della blockchain di Hive. Una volta installato, ti risparmia il dover copiare e incollare continuamente lunghe password testuali ogni volta che devi fare un'azione nel gioco, riducendo a zero il rischio di errori di battitura e velocizzando la navigazione con JAWS.
Un piccolo accenno: Cosa sono queste "Chiavi"?
A differenza dei siti web tradizionali che usano una sola password, su Hive e Splinterlands avrai a disposizione diverse "chiavi" private (come la Posting Key o la Active Key). Ognuna ha un compito specifico: una serve solo per giocare e pubblicare, l'altra per gestire i tuoi guadagni. Hive Keychain custodisce queste chiavi per te, così non rischierai mai di esporre quella più importante (la Master Key) durante le tue sessioni di gioco.
Come scaricare Hive Keychain
L'installazione su computer è molto semplice ed è il metodo che utilizzo personalmente:
- Da Computer (PC o Mac): Se giochi dal browser (come Google Chrome, Brave o Firefox), ti basta cercare "Hive Keychain" sul Chrome Web Store o sul catalogo delle estensioni del tuo browser. JAWS riconosce senza problemi il pulsante "Aggiungi" o "Installa". Una volta completato il download, l'estensione sarà pronta nella barra degli strumenti del browser.
(Nota: Per dovere di cronaca esiste anche l'applicazione ufficiale per smartphone sia su Android che su iOS, ma non avendola testata personalmente in questa guida mi concentrerò esclusivamente sull'esperienza da computer, che conosco alla perfezione).
Il gioco è fatto: Pronti per la registrazione
A questo punto, la parte tecnica riguardante l'estensione è completata. Non serve fare nient'altro, né perdersi in configurazioni complicate. Potete momentaneamente lasciarla da parte: rimarrà lì nel browser, pronta a intervenire in automatico quando sarà necessario.
Ora siamo finalmente pronti per fare il grande passo. Potete collegarvi direttamente al sito ufficiale cliccando su questo link: Splinterlands.com. Una volta aperta la pagina, saremo pronti per avviare la procedura di registrazione vera e propria.
🃏 Cos'è Splinterlands in poche parole?
Prima di registrarci, spendiamo due parole su questo titolo. Splinterlands è un gioco di carte collezionabili strategico basato sulla blockchain. Ogni carta rappresenta un mostro o un evocatore con abilità e statistiche uniche. La cosa fantastica per noi che usiamo uno screen reader è che si tratta di un gioco tattico "a turni" e automatizzato: una volta schierata la squadra sul campo in base al testo e ai numeri delle carte, il combattimento si risolve da solo. Non servono riflessi visivi pronti o movimenti veloci del mouse, conta solo la strategia.
🔎 Trovare il tasto "Registrati" con JAWS
Appena la pagina di Splinterlands si è caricata nel browser, l'interfaccia può sembrare piena di elementi grafici, ma per noi la navigazione è molto semplice. Per trovare subito il comando di registrazione senza scorrere tutta la pagina a freccia giù, vi consiglio di usare i tasti di scelta rapida:
- Premete il tasto B (Button) su JAWS per saltare direttamente di pulsante in pulsante.
- In alternativa, aprite la lista dei pulsanti della pagina con la combinazione Insert + F5.
Cercate il pulsante che JAWS leggerà come "Create Account" (o "Sign Up"). Una volta individuato, premete Invio per aprirlo.
📝 Come inserire i dati di registrazione
Dopo aver premuto il pulsante, si aprirà una finestra sovrapposta (un modulo pop-up).
- Consiglio pratico per lo screen reader: Per saltare subito al primo campo di input ed evitare di scorrere gli elementi grafici interni al modulo, potete premere comodamente il tasto E (Edit). JAWS vi porterà istantaneamente nella casella di testo corretta.
Successivamente, potete muovervi tra i vari elementi utilizzando il tasto Tab. La procedura vi chiederà pochissimi dati:
- Inserimento Email: Nel primo campo editabile (raggiunto con il tasto E), digitate il vostro indirizzo email.
- Conferma Email: Premendo Tab, vi sposterete sul secondo campo dove dovrete digitare nuovamente la stessa email per conferma.
- Accettazione dei Termini: Continuando con il Tab, arriverete sulla casella di controllo (checkbox) per accettare i termini di servizio. Vi basterà premere la Barra Spaziatrice per spuntarla.
A questo punto, un ultimo Tab vi porterà sul pulsante finale per confermare l'invio della registrazione.
📧 Controllo della mail e scelta del nome utente
Una volta inviato il modulo, il sistema di Splinterlands vi invierà una email di verifica all'indirizzo che avete appena inserito.
- Verifica della mail: Aprite la vostra casella di posta elettronica, cercate il messaggio inviato da Splinterlands e cliccate sul link di conferma contenuto all'interno. JAWS rileverà facilmente il link all'interno del testo della mail.
- Scelta dello Username: Dopo aver cliccato sul link di verifica, verrete reindirizzati sul sito di Splinterlands dove vi verrà chiesto di scegliere il vostro nome utente (Username). Questo nome sarà importantissimo: non sarà solo il vostro nickname di gioco, ma diventerà a tutti gli effetti il nome del vostro account pubblico sulla blockchain di Hive. Potete usare il tasto E per posizionarvi sul campo di scrittura e digitare il nome che preferite.
- La Password di sicurezza: Subito dopo aver confermato il nome, il sistema genererà una password complessa (la vostra chiave privata di Hive). È fondamentale non perderla: copiatela con cura utilizzando i comandi di JAWS e salvatela in un posto sicuro sul vostro computer (ad esempio in un file di testo protetto). Questa password vi servirà tra pochissimo per configurare l'estensione che abbiamo scaricato all'inizio.
🎒 Sorpresa: Avete appena creato il vostro Wallet Hive!
C'è un dettaglio straordinario che molti nuovi giocatori all'inizio non sanno: completando questa registrazione, non avete creato un semplice profilo di gioco, ma avete aperto a tutti gli effetti un Wallet (portafoglio digitale) sulla blockchain di Hive.
Questo significa due cose importantissime per noi che navighiamo con JAWS:
- Un account, infinite possibilità: Con lo stesso identico nome utente e la stessa password che avete appena salvato, potete accedere non solo a Splinterlands, ma anche a Ecency per scrivere post (proprio come questo!), a PeakD, o a qualsiasi altra piattaforma dell'ecosistema Hive.
- I vostri guadagni al sicuro: Le carte che vincerete o acquisterete e le monete del gioco non saranno salvate sui server di un'azienda, ma saranno depositate direttamente nel vostro wallet personale, sotto il vostro totale controllo.
Nota: Questo è un argomento vastissimo ed estremamente interessante. Non voglio mettere troppa carne al fuoco adesso, quindi vi prometto che ne parlerò molto meglio e in modo approfondito nei miei prossimi post guida!
🎮 Iniziare a giocare (senza spendere nulla!) e lo Spellbook
La notizia migliore è che a questo punto siete ufficialmente pronti per scendere in campo. Non dovete investire un solo centesimo per iniziare: Splinterlands permette infatti di fare partite di prova e iniziare a prendere confidenza con l'interfaccia, le carte e i primi combattimenti in modo totalmente gratuito. Questo è il momento perfetto per esplorare il sito con JAWS, capire come vengono letti i dati dei mostri e iniziare a testare le vostre prime strategie senza alcuna pressione finanziaria.
Se in seguito vorrete fare sul serio e iniziare a guadagnare denaro reale sotto forma di token (SPS) o vincere carte scambiabili, il gioco offre la possibilità di acquistare lo "Summoner's Spellbook". Si tratta di un pass unico che costa 10 dollari (pagabile comodamente sia con PayPal che in criptovalute) che vi darà il diritto di accedere alle partite classificate.
