Splinterlands:One Shaman to Slow Them All!

Happy Sunday, Warriors!

Thanalorian Scion has become one of my favorite water monsters in modern ranked. I feature her in the majority of my water battles, mainly because of her Void ability — you must deplete her armor before you can touch her health. Because of this, I often use her in the tank position.
She starts with a massive +10 armor and only +1 health at level 1. Even at level 3, she still has just one health point.
With this in mind, I went searching for another monster that also has the Void ability, one that forces opponents to go through its armor before reaching its health (unless the ruleset says otherwise). In the process, I discovered a ruthless and formidable unit, and a dual-splinter monster at that. It is none other than Warborn Shaman

Splinterlands is no walk in the park, but that's what amps up the excitement.A winning strategy weighs stats, abilities, rulesets, mana caps, and beyond. That's why you must factor them all into your deck building. Toss in strong cards to boost your setups, and push hard to rack up as many victories as possible! 🔥

FEATURED CARD:

Warborn Shaman is a formidable Rare promo card from the Rebellion edition, known for its powerful dual splinter nature — it belongs to both Water and Death splinters. This hybrid identity gives it exceptional flexibility in team building, allowing it to be summoned in Water and Death battles.
Its standout defensive feature is the Void Armor ability:Magic attacks hit this monster’s armor before its health.
This perfectly complements Thanalorian Scion(same Void Armor feature).Opponents using magic damage (the most common attack type in many formats) are forced to chew through the Shaman’s armor first before touching its health pool. This makes it extremely resilient against magic-heavy teams, especially when paired with additional armor buffs or in rulesets like Armored Up or Wands Out.

Stats Progression and The Dual Nature – Layered Abilities (Max Level Focus)

Mana Cost: 10
Attack: Magic damage (starts at 3 and stays there all through even at max.)
Speed: starts at 2 and scales up to 3 at higher level.
Armor: 4
Health: Starts at 6 and scales up to 8 at higher levels(8)

Even with relatively modest base health, the combination of Void Armor + decent health pool + self-sustain makes it surprisingly durable in the tank or front positions.

What truly defines Warborn Shaman is how its abilities evolve with levels, creating a multi-layered, self-sufficient unit:

At level 1(Bronze),it has the Void Armor ability.Void Armor (core defensive ability) — Forces magic damage to deplete armor first, just like Thanalorian Scion.

At level 2(Silver),it gains another ability ImpedeImpede — Each successful magic attack reduces the target’s Speed by 1, slowing down dangerous enemy threats over time.

At level 4(gold), it gains the Ambush ability.Ambush — Acts before the battle officially begins (extra turn in the ambush phase), giving it an immediate impact to apply damage or debuffs right away.

At level 6(Diamond), it gains yet again another ability called Poison.Poison — Has a chance (typically 50%) to apply Poison on attack. Poison deals damage over time at the start of each round and bypasses many defenses.

At max level,8(Champion), It gains it final ability called Heal.Heal (self-sustain) — Restores a portion of its own health each round (roughly 1/3 of max health, rounded down). This gives it excellent longevity, allowing it to stay on the battlefield longer and keep pressuring opponents.

This combination turns Warborn Shaman into a ruthless, self-healing magic tank that slows enemies, poisons them, hits early, and refuses to die easily thanks to Void Armor.

CARD VALUE at the moment, this card is sold for $72, quite expensive but worth having.

My Verdict on Warborn Shaman
Most monsters get 2 to 4 abilities at most. Warborn Shaman gets five meaningful ones, plus the flexibility of being a Water/Death dual splinter card.

The combo is particularly nasty:

  • It hits early (Ambush) and applies Poison and slows the target (Impede) and keeps Healing itself while enemies waste attacks on its armor (Void Armor).

This makes it excellent at disrupting enemy setups, surviving longer than expected, and grinding down opponents over time. At the moment I am renting it.
