On a decision for your personal development the option that feels difficult, disturbing, and uncomfortable is usually the best option

You have probably felt this before or even in a couple of situations. There is something you want to do and you know how good it is for you to do it, but then also, something else just comes to mind. Something more easy to do, more comfortable but little to no long term impact.

Take an example; you want to write a hive post because the last time you posted a blog on hive was over a week ago and you can’t help but feel inconsistent and all the bad feelings that come with not keeping up on hive, but then, as you are still thinking about it you get a feeling that you should take a nap and wake up and write the post; that it would refresh and calm your mind to think well and write the post better.

The excuses always look so perfect it’s irresistible.

I have had the title of this post written in my note for over a week today. The above excuse always gets me. Though it has not necessarily been about taking a nap, it does have everything to do with me needing to calm my mind, ‘cause I honestly do need it. The days has not been smiling at me at all since the year started.

See? Perfect excuse!
More like really convincing excuse.

At this point the core essence of that particular post title has been lost. The ideas I had to make the post about is lost.

Do not fall for those pretty excuses, they make you weak. You cannot get anything done. Do everything you can, everything in your power to choose the difficult options in this case and not fall for the easy options. They cannot take you anywhere. You cannot grow as a person by always choosing the easy options.

Discipline is doing something not because you just like doing it but because you know it is good for you (usually in the long term). The good news is that when you keep doing it it gets to a point you actually like doing it.

Nobody really likes eating “tasteless” foods.
Nobody really likes lifting heavy metals.
Nobody really likes not sleeping at night.
Nobody really likes waking up early.
Nobody really likes reading their course materials.
Nobody really likes not spending as much as they earn.

You get my point, everybody likes to do the easy and comfortable things. Yup everybody likes to be comfortable just like you. Shockingly, it is just as difficult to write a blog post on hive for everyone else just as it is for you but that does not prevent everyone from writing and posting. Heck, some of these folks have busier lives than you. They are actually pretty occupied with their lives but still make the time to write and post here. Some of them, as busy as they are, still do not go two days without writing a blog post.

But how are they able to do that with all the tight schedules and other businesses?

Good question.
The answer, Discipline. Remember this?

Discipline is doing something not because you just like doing it but because you know it is good for you (usually in the long term). The good news is that when you keep doing it it gets to a point you actually like doing it.

So next time you wonder how people are able to do difficult things (or things you find difficult doing while people are doing like it’s easy), remember this word.

Shocker! You can develop it too!
Next time you are in a situation like this, choose the one that has the long term benefit. It’s usually the one that seems difficult. Waking up early, eating healthy, going to the gym, reading your books, and all that stuff. You can actually make them easy for yourself, just make up your mind.

The excuses always look so perfect it’s irresistible.

So true... I fall into this trap so often which encourages my procrastination on projects that feel complicated. When I do get it done, I wonder what the fuss is about.

Like I read from a post of my hive friend @p1k4ppa10 that when you have the inkling to do something, get it done immediately. Not giving into the trap of stating you would do it, whether in writing or verbally and end up not doing the things you said you would. just do it.

Thanks for a lovely post💕

I learned myself and became aware how much of a mental game life is when I was running a lot. Running is such a mental game because your body can usually handle the stresses you put on it but the worst enemy of a runner is often their own mind. You get in your mind that your breathing is off, you probably need to take a break and then you take a break. Starting back up becomes a little harder so your mind says let’s finish for today. Then you’re running and you think your knee hurts so you should stop. You think that your headphones aren’t on right. There are so many things that go through your head to try and get you to stop running but you have to shut most of them out because it’s just this sick game our minds play on us.

Similar thing with hive posts and the like. It’s about discipline and being able to control our minds. I’m saying this from a recent perspective where I’ve lost some of my discipline because I haven’t been writing as consistently as I once was. I still get my posts out daily but I don’t have as many in the scheduled queue waiting. It’s a tough situation to be in but we have to use discipline to get back into the game and get on the horse again to keep things going!

It couldn’t have been said any better. Our lives are full distractions. And that’s all they are and should be regarded as the distractions that they are and hence be treated as such.

We actually lose when we let those distractions get to us.

And we win the moment we recognize we are being distracted by a particular thing.
